I disagree with having pics in the sig....and find it as an inconvenience

Colored text is fine by me but I agree that pics would make this forum look like crap

NO. People love to put 500KB animated GIFs and it gets annoying as hell. Particularly when they are all glittery and distracting.

The problem is bigger than "annoying" for several reasons:

1. HTML can be a source of malicious code.

2. The extra load of displaying images slows the forums.

3. There is even more slowing action if the source for the pic is slow.

4. It is not fair to other sites to hit them with "the AnandTech Effect" from every hit caused every time a member views a thread containing the image link.

The size of our forums makes our footprint bigger than Bigfoot. Allowing image links would make us bad Internet neighbors.

Anand has been informed of the problem. Until it is resolved, please help us keep our big, clumsy feet out of other sites bandwidth.

I have sigs turned off so I could care less. What I would like is an option to disable avatar images too. I want my forum experience to be as much pure text as possible.

You can, under your personal options change "Discussion Interface Type" to standard from enhanced. It will kill the graphical emoticons too.
