I bought a BFG 7800 GT OC card and have read that the perfomance difference
between it and the 7800 GTX is about 10% or so. Is there any reason I should
upgrade to the GTX for future games ect..
The GT plays Half Life 2, Call of Duty 2 and Fear decent enough at 1280 x 1024
but would I see all that much difference with the GTX ?
Also, has ATI anything out or in the works that will compete with the 7800 cards ?
And one last question, does anybody know or have any hands on knowledge
of the performance of the 7800 GT agp version compared to an ATI X850XT
card. I was thinking of a card upgrade for my backup AGP slot computer.
Both my computers have 2 gig of Corsair XMS Platinum memory and
Athlon 64 cpu's, one an X2 3800 and my backup a 3500.
Dang, forgot to ask whats the best program to use to oc my 7800 GT.

The GTX is not a good upgrade for current or future games because the 7900 series will be available soon.
ATI has plenty that competes with the 7800's. Check out the video reviews on Anandtechs main page.

I dont overclock my cards co I cant tell you much about that.

Use RivaTuner if you want to OC

Don't upgrade to the GTX right now, wait until the 7900 comes out. Then prices for that and other cards will go down. Around that time, the X1800GTO should come out too; it's basically an X1900 (but stripped down a bit) so with some OCing you should reach X1900 Speeds with it.

there is no 7800gt AGP, the 7800gs AGP might be what you're referring to, and it'll cost as much or more than the 7800gt.

Going from a 7800GT to a GTX is too small an increase. I say if you already have one G70 series card, that should be enough. The G70 cards can't do HDR+AA. Wait for G80 if you want a reasonable upgrade path.

Sorry. I meant GS. Any info on performance versus My current X850XT. I can't
find any comparisons on line between the two.

The performance gap of your card and the 7800GS is minimal, not worth the hassle of buying and selling of the cards. The only difference would be if you got a good OC off the GS, but I know nothing about the GS and its OCing ability.

stick with the x850xt, even with a nicely OC'd 7800gs it'll be nothing more than a sidegrade.
