You need new RAM as well (I assume that is DDR2). The FX-55 is a huge waste of money... That P4 3GHz isn't slow enough to warrant an upgrade.
 
For gaming, I'd save your money. The price of dual core amd's will come down eventually. I'm still running a northwood p4 at 3640. If you had a northwood, I would recommend a new board for overclocking. But prescotts run too warm to overclock with air cooling.
 
id wait a few more months and get a dual core or a 3500/3700 san diego (your choice) w/ a new mobo...your cpu is fine for the time being...
 
Yep, sit on what you've got for a little bit, if you really must upgrade pick up something like a 3200+ Venice and a nice NF4 board, unless you have AGP....
