Should I write a good-bye spam?

It's kind of a custom where I work to write a good-bye spam when you leave, & send it out to everyone at the location. Pretty much everyone does it. But... Apparently if you do it you automatically get a "no re-hire" statement placed in your file, along with a printout of your spam.

Given that I have a job interview tomorrow morning, & I have every intention of leaving this place ASAP, I've started thinking about this: Is it worth it to write the spam? On one hand I want to, I have people I want to say good-bye to, policies to flame, etc. I'd put enough time & effort into it to make it good. But on the other hand I almost think it'd be better to leave the doors open for my return (God forbid).

Is it worth it?

I tend to think burning your bridges is a bad idea unless you have a deep seated hatred against the place and will absolutely never need anything from the company or any one who works there! If you do it a "screw you all" letter sent to everyone...both employed and customers would be the best way though ;)

To say it shortly, no, it's not worth it. Remember that this really your first and only computer related reference, you don't want you previous employer to come back and haunt you. Many companies take references and background checks very seriously. You don't want them to tarnish your image just because you wanted to bash the company on your last day.

Quietly email your friends that you are leaving and let them know how to reach you in the future.

Burnt bridges aren't something you want to start doing this early in your career.

It won't accomplish a thing except to get that "no re-hire" flag put on your file. And you don't know that some day down the road you might not run into one of the bosses you have today, and he/she might be in a position to either help or hurt you. I've seen that happen more than once.

It won't likely be a "screw you" letter. Most of the people I'll honestly miss. I only hate the job, not the people. The only thing I can ever imagine needing from the company is another job... And I'm going to avoid that at all costs.

Although this isn't my only computer reference (I did web design & online classes for Portland Community College when I was 15), it's my most recent. It's also my only hardware related job.

i'd say no as well, unless you can somehow do it anonymously, but then they may end up finding out it was you anyways

In my experience - bad idea.
You'll get about 20 seconds of satisfaction, and never be able to get anything out of any of them again.
IT is a small world... I wouldn't do it.

Leave on good terms. Unless you own a crystal ball :)

vi's right....you never know, one of the bosses might get hired somewhere else and might remember your actions. Just send the email to a few peeps then don't say anything to the people you don't care about, or would rather not talk to again.

late.

not sure if someone mentioned this...but when you apply for a new job and the interviewer wants a reference and if they call your boss and he mentions about the spam...hmm..not a good thing.

if you want to say goodbye, just send a private email or something.
