If you don't wash it, it won't rain. You dont' want to be responsible for the drought now, do you?

Please wash. CLAY, and then wax your car.....once it rains you will see how the rains beads off the car =) but you shouldn't wax your car until its 6 months old.

I get the feeling you're new to using cars. Crud doesn't stick as well to a freshly waxed car, so the car will stay cleaner longer and is easier to wash.

so wax can actually withstand the hand washing afterwards? if so, that's amazing because hand washing is pretty strong.. and yes, im new to cars. :)

Wax isn't just an oily substance that makes the car shine. It hardens on the paint.

You should visit Autopia. Great place for detailing newbies and pros alike. Can even read part of the E-book free if you'd like. Would give you a pretty good basic understanding of what is and is not good for your cars finish.

You SHOULD WAX your car the first few days you own it, The wax that the factory applies is just to coat the car during shipping that is why cars come with white plastic paper covering the hood, trunk and other places (Thats what the Vehicle Prep fee is, Someone takes all the protective crap off and washes it) EVERY dealer recommends wash/Wax right away.

Longo Toyota the Nations LARGEST Toyota dealer (In SALES) gives a pamplet to every customer and it states WAX your car right away ASAP.

I used to be a car salesman at 2 different dealerships (Toyota, Nissan) and both always said WAX right away. This was confirmed by our 3 full time Detailers at toyota and 2 full time detailers at the nissan dealership.

Plus it was confirmed by the Factory themselves. I am speaking from many years of experience it seems your detailer is mis-informed.

Mmmhmm. Factory paint is cured long before the car ever makes it to the showroom. So you wax it ASAP. If your car was just repainted then you're supposed to wait 30 days for the paint to cure before waxing. I have no idea where your detailer would have gotten his information about a 6 month time period but you might want to send him to autopia as well. ;)

I use the McGuiar (sp?) stuff in the maroon bottle... It doesn't last long, especially on the hood. People on forums recommend it, but I think the more solid stuff in the canister is supposed to last longer. If I had a new car or a new paint job I would get Zaino or something instead.
The stuff in the bottle lasts for alot more than two waxings.
You are supposed to wax when water stops beading on the paint. I don't think I've EVER seen water bead on my hood. The heat seems to burn it off.

Well... it depends on what the detailer did.... if he painted on fancy little designs, then you have to wait for HIS paint to cure as well. The original paint is already cured, but those little pinstripes or whatever you had the detailer put on also need to cure. So, the detailer is correct. Don't wax over his job.

Solution? Don't get the car detailed... just wax it and be on your way.

edit: Better solution: Don't bother washing it ever. Then, it'll consistently be dirty. A little less dirty after rain, but dirty nonetheless :D
(doesn't a good coat of dirt protect the finish from the elements?)

Your wax job will withstand washing provided you use a good wax. Also make sure you use a good car wash soap. Don't use dishwasing soap...it will strip your wax coat away.
