I am looking to upgrade my super heater Prescott, I think the heat coming off this thing OC'ed to 3.1GHz from 2.6 is enough to save me like $100 on my heating bills a month. I just really can't stand this thing anymore, there is nothing wrong with it, but I get tired of machines quickly and this one is way overdue. I am thinking now a DFI LanParty non SLI with the San Diego 3700+, probably with a x800xt and some OCZ VX Gold. I really would like to upgrade now....but is it really worth it to wait until the dual cores come out and the next-gen of GPU's?? and is the time frame for realease of these within reach of what I have the patience for?? I am also not really happy about spending $1000 on just the video card and CPU in my next build. What should I do???? help???

$1000 for cpu and video ? Isn;t the 3700+ about $334, and the x800xt about $400 ? Anyway, that sounds like a great way to go. And in another year or two, when dual-core is widely available, and the software starts to show up to use it, you pop in a new cpu.

The $1000 thing was meant to reflect the cost of a new dual core as well as the new GPU.

Dual cores would come out no later than July, or even end of June
The cheapest Athlon64 X2 would be $500 USD
Which isn't that much more expensive than San Deigo

Unless your a heavy multitasker or run primarily applications that are multithreaded then a dual core X2 wont be of real benefit to you right now. It will be a while before games and most applications are multithreaded because of the time involved with codeing them that way and the fact very few people will have these new processors.

If your upgradeing now i would get a 3200+ Venice or 3700+ San Diego. If your going to overclock the 3200+ Venice will probably be a better bet. The SD is just an added $130 for performance you'll probably never notice if its even able to overclock higher then the Venice you get.

And for right now i would just get a 6800GT or X800XL PCI-E. New cards will be coming out from nVidia and ATI before long and they will be alot faster.

So you are saying that it is worth it now to buy a video card for roughly $300 when much faster cards are coming out soon....not sure I understand what you are saying about that.
