Should I wait for the next Nvidia, or buy now?

I'm using a Matrox G550 which was fine when I never played games (serious fellow). But I've started to play UT2003 (broke my 3D game cherry) and expect I will like more than Myst or Riven in the future. I thought I could wait for the next Nvidia chipset generation but my G550 totally sucks. What should I do? Pleeeeease, I don't know how to make decisions on my own. ;)

I don't want ATI only cause I dual-boot linux although I don't expect I'll play games in linux ("serious fellow" moved to linux).

Will the Ti4200 "...totally suck" in the not very distant future?

My monitor? I just got a 17" LCD (need to change my profile) which I got for text work and I run it in it native 1280x1024 (no DVI:() mode.

Meh, if you wait you can expect lower prices across the board. 9700 is great, although I've never run it in Linux. The Ti4200 will be acceptable for new games like Doom3, acceptable but not great.

Heheh anything from a GF3 or Rad 8500 and up is gonna be an epiphany for him. Prices are gonna drop, so if you can take a slideshow for a month or so in UT2k3, you'll save some bucks.

The truth is, everyone seems to underestimate the current cards availible... I had no problem running UT2003 on a PNY GF3 ti500... Of course If I wanted to max out the settings, I had to overclock it, but the increased settings werent really anything to grovel over IMO... With my GF4 ti4600, I dont have to OC at all to run maxed settings... Doom3 will be the same...
