Should I wait for the intel haswell processor to build a gaming rig?

I wanted to build a gaming rig within the next 6 months but I have read that the intel haswell processor will be coming out in the spring of 2013. Now I figure that it would be worth it to wait to build my gaming rig until the haswell processor comes out. That way I would not have to upgrade my motherboard or other components if I decided to upgrade to a haswell processor in the future. So, as of right now, would it be worth it to wait for the haswell processor to come out and then build my gaming rig? Also, how much more powerful will the haswell processor be compared to the ivy bridge processors?

No. Just get an Ivy Bridge...it'll have a lot of life in it. And you'll get to game today instead of waiting a whole year of your life.

If you dont already have a gaming rig then go ahead and get Ivy bridge when it comes out

No, wait for Broadwell, it'll consume less energy than Haswell and overclock better!

From what I understand, a 2500k is massively powerful for gaming to the point that it will be future proof for quite some time, particularly if you overclock it.

Haswell will be a big upgrade but if you need something now I see no reason to hold off if you're a gamer.

There will always be something faster around the corner. You are lucky, because that something faster is coming out in 3 weeks. Get Ivy Bridge and forget Haswell.

Ivy Bridge looks to be a sidegrade unfortunately. Lower power consumption looks to be its only tangible benefit.

Im not sure why people say they're going to wait. The 3570K is 220 dollars. That's ridiculously cheap

If it's not $99 or less, Intel's just taking advantage of AMD's uncompetitiveness and being an evil, ugly, greedy corporation. And that $99 needs to apply to the 3770K, not the "artificially crippled" 3570K :p

Come on intel. If you can't afford a 200 dollar processor its time to push yourself and bust your hump to better yourself.

NO! I WANT MY TOP END, HIGH R&D COST, AMAZINGLY AWESOME CPU FOR $50!

But seriously, I think I'll be nabbing a 3770K + whatever-the-top-ASUS-Z77-board-is when summer vacation rolls around and I can afford to have my desktop unavailable to write code with.

Those evil, ugly, greedy corporations...
Or maybe just greedy entitled consumers who believes they deserve the best for much less then what it is actually worth.
(and in the case of software piracy they actually take it too).
If you think intel processors are NOT worth that much money buy AMD, SPARC, powerPC, or ARM.

My post is dripping with sarcasm, btw. I own a LOT of Intel stock, so it's in my best interests that Intel keep its high profits. In any case, I think a 3570K for $220 or whatever is a ridiculous steal.

Couldn't agree more and I as well am an intel stock holder. Anyone remember the price of the athlon 64 fx-60? Was a thousand dollars.

I really do not understand all the hype with IB. We are only talking about a Tick with 5-7% performnce gains. Clearly Intel put the most effort into power savings and the IGP, which no one will use for gaming anyways.

$220 for a CPU that is only slightly better than a $179 CPU that has been out for 16 months now is not a great deal in my opinion. Especially since Haswell will wipe the floor with IB in less than a year.

I'm excited because I'm getting a CPU that is a lot faster than my current one and I do not have to get a new PSU.

But yeah I can see it not being very exciting for people with more recent hardware.

6 months? 6 months is a long time. If you don't plan to build until 6 months from now, maybe you should hold off on your build and revisit it when you actually have the time/money to build it now.
