Should I wait for GT200/48xx or....

... get a 512 8800 GTS OC? I currently have 9600GT and to be honest it runs out of steam in some games.

My wife's PC needs some updating as well so I am planning to order my gfx card in one go. Thing is , I don't know if I should wait for the new cards to come out or just get the 8800GTS.
Will it be able to handle future games coming out? I am currently mostly playing AoC (Age of Conan), CoD4, Crysis, and Colin Mcrae: DIRT.

Of course I have a budget of around £300 maximum here, so I am not sure if the new cards would fit my budget and worth the wait.

I am also seriously thinking about getting a GX2 but the heat produced and size kinna puts me off at the moment.

So I am hoping to get some opinion as to whether I should really just wait ( but for how long? :( ) or just consider the almighty 512 8800 GTS OC ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the new ATI/AMD video cards come out early June and the new Nvidia cards come out June 18th according to this DailyTech article

http://www.dailytech.com/Nextg...eiled/article11842.htm

Unlike the upcoming AMD Radeon 4000 series, currently scheduled to launch in early June, the D10U chipset does not support DirectX extentions above 10.0. Next-generation Radeon will also ship with GDDR5 while the June GeForce refresh is confined to just GDDR3.

The GTX series is NVIDIA's first attempt at incorporating the PhysX stream engine into the D10U shader engine. The press decks currently do not shed a lot of information on this support, and the company will likely not elaborate on this before the June 18 launch date.

So I would just wait and see the benchmarks....even if you don't want to spend the big money on one of these new video cards, they will surely be lowering the prices on the existing video cards once these new ones come out.

3 weeks? o.0 Any official links? You mean both ATI and Nvidia or ...?

I was expecting something like 2 months ++ 3 weeks is definitely ok.

However, will the "good" model be priced like GX2 or will it be any cheaper?

Actually ATI cards were supposed to launch in July, after all the speculation that they would launch in May and nVidia would launch in late June.

Then official word came out that nVidia would beat ATI to market on June 18th, so a few days later, ATI announced that they would launch on June 16th, although speculation is that the products won't be widely available until July. Then nVidia announced that they would launch on June 17th.

The 8800GTS won't be "that" much faster than the 9600GT, so it's really not much of an upgrade. I'd wait for the new cards.

wait, or if your mboard supports SLI get another 9600. Don't by a 8800GTS, it's not that much faster.

his mobo is a Rampage Formula which is an Asus X48 motherboard and therefore not SLi capable.

Wait. The Nvidia looks to be real high-end, with 4870 below that. But both better than your options now.

Supposedly the 4850 is shipping - so that one should be on time. The others - who ever knows, as shortages seem common with new cards.

1.We have no clue how many 4850s are shipping.
2. We have no clue about the status of the rest.

This is true.

I'm expecting a few thousand or so 4850's to be available on June 16th, then the 4870's near end of June. The near end of july 4870X2's.

4870 june 23rd, 4870x2 in august. 4870 is only around 20% faster than 9800gtx so not worth paying nearly double that of a 8800gts, especially when you can almost make up that performance difference by overclocking.
