All the horse/car buggywhip nonsense is tired.

This isn't a new invention we're talking about, or even a major innovation. It's a stupid downgrade to a user interface system that's been around for decades.

Cars replaced horses and carragiages- IE: it was a new invention replacing an old one. Microsoft hasn't invented anything, and they sure as hell haven't introduced a replacement to the personal computer. They aren't and really never have been capable of that sort of innovation. They make operating systems for SOMEONE ELSE'S INVENTION.

So can we knock off all the lame analogies now?

hear hear :awe:

Looks like it's coming today: http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2012/05/31/microsoft-accidentally-announces-windows-8-release-preview-for-may-31st-pulls-blog-post/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=share+button&utm_content=Microsoft+accidentally+announces+Windows+8+Release+Preview+for+May+31st+%E2%80%94+a+day+early+%E2%80%94+then+pulls+blog+post&utm_campaign=social+media

I don't understand all this whining. I haven't tried the Win8 UI, but judging from videos on youtube, I'll love it. Of course I'll disable all kinds of aero thingies, but the fact that there's no start menu is not troubling. There are many alternatives (with keyboard) that can help access everything in a more quicker and better-overview fashion. Of course as someone mentioned, I'm sure there will be a "patch" that will allow users to make a decision to disable metro. Windows 8 is not released yet.
Anyway, what matters to me the most are the below the carpet (or whats the saying) changes. Can't wait to see release preview benchmarks!

Microsoft is actually taking steps to prevent people from bringing the start menu back and they also won't allow you to boot directly to the desktop and bypass Metro.

I'd already lost all interest in 8 but removing Aero and now forcing people into Metro just takes a bad product and turns it into a horrible one.

I do not want Windows 8 without a mouse. I do not want to share it with my spouse. Nor do I want it in my house.
You can try to sell me on it all you can. I do not like Windows 8 or green eggs and ham.

Microsoft hasn’t made such an obviously consumer-centric version of Windows since Millennium Edition (Windows Me), and the question isn’t whether businesses will ignore this release, as they did Windows Vista. Of course they will.

Ouch. Reading the rest of that article makes me glad I grabbed a discounted Win7 family pack this week. If Win8 brings anything I just have to run, it will be in a windowed VM on my Win7 Aero desktop. :)

I'm stockpiling licenses for 7 as well, hopefully Windows 9 will an actual upgrade.

I work in IT Support, so I need to know how to use all the main operating systems. Granted I cannot see work ever rolling out this kiddie version of Windows, but we also support personal devices and some of them will have this OS on it.

So I'll install it as my primary OS for a few months and force myself to use it. My PC needs a cleanout anyway.

I will be installing it on my Dell Inspiron One 2205 which I bought only for testing Windows 8. The CP was good but had problems getting to the corner pixels. I wonder if they have made any changes to compatiblity with Windows 7 touchscreens.
