Should I use my windows7 for office or gaming?

Just got windows 7, but not sure on which machine to install it on.

I have an HTPC that I do a lot of gaming on. It only has XP on it. So no directx 10. I am debating whether to make it a dual boot with windows 7 for the directx upgrade, or just use windows 7 on the office pc.

By the way, I am assuming that you can't get directx 10 on XP. If that's not the case, then convert this thread to "how to get Directx10 for XP".

I can't imagine any other reason to move to windows 7 on my HTPC. BY the way, here are the specs on the 2 PCs. Are the specs on the office PC too low for windows 7?

HTPC:
AMD X3 720 BE
Biostar TA790GX 128M
4GB memory
Sapphire Radeon 4850

Office (former gaming PC):
Intel P4 2.4 Ghz
Abit VT7
2GB memory
Nvidia 6600GT

the HTPC would benefit more if you install x64 to take advantage of all 4GB of memory. I think Windows 7 would be better than XP for media playback too. HDCP and all.

You can't. There are ways to get XP/DX9 to render some DX10 effects using software in Crysis but that's about it.

Windows Media Center and additional codecs?

splurge and by another copy? As far as DX10 goes and gaming, you are not really missing out on much. Put it on the pc you use the most or just buy another copy I say.
