I just went from Win 98 SE to ME. I only made the switch since ME has better internet conection sharing features (couldn't play AOE in the same room w/int. modem DSL with my boys using 98SE ICS).

Although I have not had any real problems with ME, and I've tweaked it to speed things up (It's a memory hog), I was happy with 98SE and will probaly go back to it when I get my Ext. modem and router.

That help any?

I wouldn't bother, Windows Me can be very annoying as they have removed the exit to dos function and there isn't a huge amount of new features any way. They have also made the boot disc usless.

I speak from experience ... avoid ME like the plague. It really offers nothing over 98, and at least on my comp I found that it was a lot less stable. Your results could vary but if 98 is working for you then just leave it. ME will probably cause more harm than good.

Stick with Win 98 and make sure you get all the crucial Windows Updates and you'll be fine.

Leave ME alone or you'll be sorry. ME is MicroSnot's attempt at a cash grab from the uneducated. ME = Crap in a Box.

It depends on your gear. If you got crappy sh*t, it'll probably be an improvement.
A negligible improvement at best, but an improvement over at least Windows 95.

If you're about to spend $ on it, then parly up the bucks and buy Windows 2000. I am speaking from experience, it may be from a bad experience if I used any expletive deletives.

I see really bad advice being given about Win ME in this subject. I have ME installed on my computers since it was first released. Got all the updates and it runs fantastically well for me.

I think some who are giving you bad advice about ME are most likely only parroting what they think is what others want to hear. Wrong!

Win ME is the most stable of all Windows released so far. I started out with Win 3.0, 3.11, Win95, Win98, Win98 SE and now Win ME. So I do have some experience with Windows.

I did have Win NT 4 installed and did not like it as it was not as stable as Win95 was. I got rid of NT and was happier with Win95 and all the rest of the Win upgrades.

Go with Win ME as it is by far the best ever Windows released.

Win2K is seriously sick as one can read all the problems notes on Anandtech about it.

NT less stable than win95? what the h3ll?

That only happens if you don't know what your doing. And the best (read most stable) MS windows so far is NT4. Second is win2k. The only reason I'd rate NT4 first is because it has a longer, proven track record.

I just downgraded from windows 98 se to windows me. I average about one error per minute, 2 on bad days. This OS is horrible. I'm gon back to SE as soon as I can. avoid it like the plague. In many respects my comp is now like Pinto. Startup is like going up a hill. Running any application is like driving up mt. everest. Save urself the headaches and either go to windows 98 se or win2k.
