I have a vp201b 20" viewsonic monitor. I play all games, edit hd vide, photochop, surf, and configure network gear in command line.

I run games at the highest resolution I can with hopefully the best looking settings.

Q6600, 4GB DDR2, Vista 64..

The only real reason I ask is I have a chance to sell it for $300 and it is not directx 10.

Well if you can sell that 7950 for $300 now I'd say for it. You could pickup anEVGA 8800GT and either pocket the difference or use the difference to take advantage of the EVGA stepup program in 3 months time when the next big thing comes along. With a 20" monitor I am sure you could comfortably play every game at max Details and even keep games like Crysis looking good and still playable.

8800GT
or HD 3870, which performs maybe... 10-25% slower, but if you can get a good price on it, good deal.

You'd be lucky to sell it for $200, unless some uninformed person is willing to overpay for your card. But in any case, a 8800gt will give you almost 2x as much performance and only take up half as much space.

I'm in the same boat. I sent a 7900GT to eVGA RMA and received a 7950gx2 back from them. After checking to see whether I had to register the card, I found they had already entered it and I was now eligible for a Step Up to an 8800GTS for all of $12 ! I really do like the 7950gx2, as it is a unique card that works well on my Asrock SATAII 939 board, but I'm sure the GTS would be a nice upgrade and also DX10 ready as well. Something makes me want to keep that 7950 card tho ... I already have an 8800GTS ACS card, so I don't need to get a second one (no, I can't SLI them either. eVGA does not include their ACS series in the Step Up program).

Funny how an oddball card just seems to get me all sentimental even tho its an easy decision from a gamers perspective.

GOOD THINKING! I just upgraded to an 8800GTS 512 from a 7950GX2, and I'm sooo happy I did! Everything is so much smoother even at really high AA/AF. It made a HUGE difference in games like TF2, UT3, COD4. Do it now, and dont look back! I'm going to take advantage of the EVGA Step-Up program as well!

You wanna know the really sad part ?? If I use the 'Step Up' to the 8800, I'll be looking for another 7950gx2 to replace the one I sent back within the year. DOHH !!

I actually put an old eVGA 6800 AGP card back into service last night, hoping it would crap out so I could get another 7950gx2 card !!

Well, you could wait for the 9850GX2. Coming soon to a theater near you. Probably around 500 bucks though, or more.

With about 70 days left on my Step Up, I am not so sure that card will be out by then. Its a lousy time to be looking for a vid card, as the 8800GT hardly offers any upgrade over my GTS card, but that would be a helluva nice card and would just replace one GX2 card with another.

I like that idea, too. Sad part is, I was saving up for an HP MediaServer 470, so that 9850 Step Up would run me at least $200 (guesstimate, minimum) on my $349 card purchase.
