Should I upgrade my video card?!!

Well, I currently have a creative labs TNT2 and it runs fine with most of my games. I'm on an Athlon 700 running Win2k. I can play Quake III at 800x and UT at 1024x with absolutely no frame rate problems at all. But I was thinking about upgrading to a Radeon or a Geforce2 GTS. Now the question is: Should I upgrade to one of these cards or wait for the newer generation cards like NV20? cause i believe the tnt2 will probably last me till then. Heh, I cancelled my order of the Radeon AIW..and thought it would be appropriate to ask in the Video Section for better opinions.

Oh my god!!!!! Taz you didn't give your typical "Get a Radeon or I'll break your legs!" crap! I'm impressed, see there is hope.

If what ya got makes ya happy, wait. Jeez, with the nv20's coming out, the price will only drop on geoforce and the current Raedons. And so far , there's only a handful of games that take advantage of what the"latest and greatest' cards can do. Save the$$$$$......for now

If you want to upgrade now, and can afford to, then go for it. If you don't mind waiting, and are content with your current card, why not hold out a little longer. Although there's always something coming around the corner.

If you do upgrade, I'd suggest something at least in the DDR Radeon, Geforce GTS/PRo field. I wouldn't recommend an MX or SDR Radeon unless you're on a particularly tight budget as you won't notice such a profound difference.

heheh 😉

Nah don't upgrade yet. I only upgraded cause my old banshee was showing real sign of age, and Im glad I did. You will see a performance gain most deinantly, but then what? If you already run your games at that high resolution with 32 bit color then there is no need to upgrade yet. It seems like alot of the Voodoo 3 people have begun upgrading, and TNT 2 technology is ahead of voodoo 3. So wait till the summer roles around. If you want a good cheap card, the Geforce 2's and 64mb Radeons's will be extrememly affordable. If you want a top of the line card by then the new cards will have dropped in price at least a little from their spring initial price.

Depends on your processor 'cuz if you have less powerful one, it'll become the bottleneck instead of your video card.

Obviously, if you have no fps problems, wait till you do! =) And sorry, Taz isn't an ATI's version of nvidiots, ATI doesn't brainwash. =)

I say wait. Wait till the NV20 comes out and give it 2 months. After that the geforce 2 gts will be dirt cheap (very expensive dirt 😛) compared to there current price.

Go for a Geforce DDR or GTS because there are more and more games coming out which use the extra features.

But like everybody says NV20 is on the horizon? Can you wait?

If you want a card that is going to support DirectX8 features and up and coming games, go for the Radeon..
