I built this system about 2 years ago or so and all in all I haven't really been compelled to upgrade until I started seeing the intel C's and E's really heating the performance up, now the 90nm A64s are also really gettin it done, so i'm re-evaluating my stance and trying to decide if i'm going to stay where i'm at or move up, below is what i'm running now
Antec tower case, the one chieftec and everyone else made a replica of, forget the name now
Sparkle 400w PSU, pot modded (5v/12v rails just a smidge over 5.0/12.0 under 100% load)
Epox 8RDA+ (first gen nforce2 chipset, running fsb @ 193mhz due to this, artifacts and glitches 195+)
512mb of Kingston basic pc3200 (2x256, runs cas2.0, 7-3-3 timings no problem @ 193fsb 2.9v)
AthlonXP 2100 palomino i believe, the old school one that was cheap and overclocked well (@2220mhz)
Western Digital 80JB parallel ata HD
Nvidia Geforce3 TI500 (either way this is getting upgraded to a 6600GT soon)
NEC 3500AG dvd burner
AOpen 16x dvd reader
First thing's first, i'm definately going to upgrade the video card to a 6600GT, i'm stingy with my money and my TI500 plays all the latest and greatest games just fine @ 1024x768 but of course I can't turn all of the eye candy on or run AF/AA, so no matter what i'm going to dump the TI500, but i'm also considering processor/memory/motherboard
But, far as memory/motherboard/processor goes, I just can't decide!
I think if i were to do an Intel i'd go with a 3.0E/better memory 512x2/915 or 925 socketT board or if I did AMD i'd go with a Asus A8V Deluxe and a retail 90nm 3200+ and better memory, but then again i'm not displeased with my system as is and if i upgrade i want to see a BIG improvement, so am i better off just waiting for SATA-2 and the other goodies that are to follow or should I jump now?
Primarily I use my computer for games/dvdshrinking dvds (lots of encoding, faster would be nicer) and websurfing/instant messaging
what do you guys think?
