Should I update my mobo to the newest BIOS before I use it?

i.e., first thing i do? Or should i see how everythings working once i set up the system and if its working fine, dont change the BIOS version, and if its NOT working fine, change it?

I would google to see if anyone has had any issues with the latest version, if I didn't find anything, I would install it.

Yes.

Check that people aren't having problems with the new bios (pretty much assured people were having problems with the old bios or it was missing some features otherwise there wouldn't be a new one) and update it first.

I'm pretty big on updating the BIOS unless it's a brand-new CPU family, when they need to iron out the initial problems. Updates with mature tech tend to be safer.

Even though a lot of people have the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach with the BIOS, there are fixes/improvements in the updates they don't always put in the changelog. I've done a lot of those updates; the only time I've had a failed flash was because the board mfg was doing some weird southbridge installs and not including all the microcode on their updates. That was back in the days of socket 939.

Yes; I find that the BIOS updates, at least on the new Asus boards, tend to dump the existing CMOS settings, so you may as well get it all-up-to-date before you get majorly into the configuration (or tweaking...if you're into overclocking).

I have a case of that with my board...I left the 1.00 bios on it because I googled and saw so many ppl complainging about issues with 1.10. I haven't heard of any better OC with the new bios, but heard about mouse issues in the UEFI Bios

I always just check to see what version my MB shipped with and then see whats available currently. If a newer one is available I just take a look at the notes then do a little searching around to see which version is best for me. My Asus board is 1 version behind currently with " Enable support for Next Gen 22nm Processor " as the only thing listed. I figure I'm not gonna upgrade my cpu so why bother. Well that and flashing the bios kills my saved profiles.
