Thanks in advance for any input.

Unless you're unstable at that voltage, then there is no need to up the voltage. If you need more voltage for stability, then going up 1.7v certainly won't kill anything.

great. Does upping the vcore just affect the cpu or other components as well? i'm still new to this, so please excuse my ignorance. which testing/benchmarking programs are best to test stability?

Prime95 for cpu & Memtest86 for memory.

edit: Make sure to use the Prime95 "torture test". The hardest of the 3 tests to pass is the one that's selected to start with.

Upping the vcore will affect other things as well, as when you load more juice, things get hotter. In other words, any trace's that are corresponding to the cpu will warm up.

okay, well, i left the vcore at 1.65 and failed the first prime95 test. so i put it at 1.7 and everything passed just fine.

I've got a couple more questions now. :)

Firstly, i'm getting different readings from MBM5 and ASUS Probe:

______MBM5____ASUS Probe

+12v__11.67____12.288
+5v____4.08_____4.73
+3.3v__3.23_____3.232
VCore__1.63_____1.664

Which readings should i use? are my current stats okay?

Finally, here's my setup:

Codegen 6066-CA case
ASUS A7V600 400FSB, SATA, Gbit LAN 6.1, Audio, 8xUSB, With Bios Rev 1006
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton Core 333MHz 512KB L2 Cache (overclocked to 3200+)
Vantec Aeroflow Heatsink with Arctic Silver 5 compound (keeps me around 45 at full load while overclocked)
Infineon 256MB PC3200 400MHz DDR Memory
ATI Radeon 9200 128 DDR
80GB Maxtor , 40GB Maxtor
LG CD/RW 24x10x40
OKIA 420w ATX P4 Power Supply

Should i be running my memory at 333mhz or 400mhz? advantages/disadvantages either way?
Again, thanks for any input. I appreciate the responses i've already gotten.

The Asus probe is obviously the one that's correct. Your computer wouldn't boot, if your +5v was at 4.08v. And you should be running your ram and your processor at the same speeds. You say that you have an XP2500@XP3200, so you're running it at 11x200fsb, right? If so, you should be running the ram at 200mhz also. And 1.7v vcore is fine for any Barton, for sure.

what is the highest vcore allowed for a barton? would 1.85 be ok? or is it just heat that matters?
