My roommate and I generally get along really well. I'm cool with pretty much everything he does, except one thing:
Tonight I opened the freezer compartment on our mini-fridge and saw five bags of weed; two of them were simply humongous. I turned around and asked him what was up with it, and he told me he had some friends coming into town tonight and that he was going to sell it to them. Makes me a little uneasy but I decided to just chill for awhile and see what happens.
Flash forward to his friends getting here. The first thing they do is pull out a couple electronic scales and start weighing the stuff. There are at least two full ounces of weed being sold here, and I know there's more in the freezer. My roommate collects $600 from his friends and they vacuumed the room and sprayed cologne to disguise the smell.
I truthfully wouldn't care if we were in an off-campus house, but we're in the dorms (in a substance-free hall) and the school's police department comes around once a week with a canine unit (trust me on this - I saw them doing a sweep on Tuesday morning).
Added to that, I am an employee at my school's Department of Public Safety. If I'm in the room with my roommate and he gets caught, I'm fired...period. No second chances. I know that if I report him, I'll get 'immunity,' as it were, and I won't have to worry about my job.
I'm not sure if it's worth getting my roommate in REAL trouble (Ann Arbor's posession law is a joke, but he would get charged with Intent to Distribute, which is quite a big deal). Should I report him, or should I risk getting myself kicked out of university housing?
EDIT: I'm going up to the dorm security office...I'll keep you all updated. Thanks for the support, and lay off nik...he's doing the right thing.
EDIT 2: I went down to the station...good news. I talked to a detective and he told me that since they didn't actually see it they can't do anything, but that I should let them know if it happens again. But, he also told me that I'm cleared of any responsibility for my roommate's actions tonight or in the near future. I NEVER wanted to get my roommate in trouble - I wanted to clear myself of the infraction. Mission accomplished.
