should i trade my ti-83silver for a ti-89? ti89 opinions? >>

yeah, you can solve that equation with the 83 just as easily. The 89 will give you multiple answers, though.

Yeah. I remember from Calc that the ti-83 lacks several critical calculus functions that the ti-86 does not (don't ask me to tell you what they are though). I always used an 86 because 89's weren't allowed. Those 89's take derivatives like a crazy mofo, and they show work.

uh the 83 can do integration too...

Weak-ass integration maybe. But it can't touch the 89. Have you taken calc yet?

I've taken Calc I, and my 83 integrated just fine.

Can the 80 do something similar to this command on the 89?

solve(2(.5)^x =12, x)?

Saves a bunch of time when you can just solve for unknowns in something yo ucan do, but is just a time hole during timed exams.

The 89 (and 92) are running what is basically an embedded version of MAPLE. If you've got any experience with college calc courses, this is a program similar to MATLAB.

Basically, the 89 (and 92) can derrive, integrate, plot, graph, solve, and just about anything else you can make a computer do. Learning the syntax, however, may drive you slightly insane. 🙂

Using the Ti-89 right now. I'm a physics major. It kicks ass. Calculators aren't allowed in math (by which I mean midterm and final exams), but are in science and engineering. Since the goal isn't to test how well you know math in those courses, an 89 is handy on exams.

Yeah... i remember in calc one...during one of the last days my friend showed me what his calc did...I was like ""OHHM Y GODD"

Yeah, it pretty much makes a joke of everything you do in calc.

my prof. requires a 92 but that's too damn expensive so I'm thinking about getting an 89 and anyway I'm only gonna take calc 1 and discrete math.

Not if you plan on using it during tests in your math classes. Most schools and teachers know about the 89's symbolic math functions and don't allow them on tests because of that.

no offense but it seems like he's a dumbass....
