... what can i get for this sucker

You can get something that won't perform half as well as what ya have, with less features and storage space.

....but it'll be smaller, and really portable for business trips and such.

Don't do it.

to me, laptops are like macs. they're cool, and i wish i had one, but they are just too damn expensive. if you can afford it and dont mind taking a bit of a performance hit, and can deal with an lcd (remember they dont play well with odd resolutions), then go for it. dont do it just for the hell of it though.

You didn't really say what you use your rig for, which is probably the most critical aspect of deciding whether or not to get a laptop.

Do not get a desktop replacement laptop if you already have a powerful desktop... They are just too expensive. What you'd be better off doing is getting a really cheap laptop that has terrible 3D terrible sound etc etc if you really need the portibility. That way, three years down the road when you look back on your purchase you'll be happy you spent 800 bucks instead of 3000.

A desktop is for the price always better than a laptop, but it really comes down to what have the need for.

I'll second RedShirt's opinion with buying an inexpensive laptop from the beginning. After a few years, you have the cash for something else 🙂
