Should I trade in my 4x DVD-RW for an 8x?

Currently I'm using a 4x Lite-On 411S. It's a fine burner for a great price I paid ($120), but I'm very intrigued by the Plextor 8X DVD-RW. I know it only does DVD+R at 8x, which are the discs that I use (TDK 4x DVD+R's), but I'm wondering if the speed increase is worth the price (I'd be trading in my drive and pay $80 for the Plextor). Since there's no 8x discs out yet, but I do know that the TDK's will burn on the 8x, you guys think it's worth the hassle? And anyone with the Plextor, how much faster burn speeds do you see?

Wait for dual layer, it should be out soon next year. That way, you may be able to purchase an 8x with upgradable firmware that enables dual layer ability.

I personally wouldn't do it. It's been said that most 4x discs work at 8x. You'll see half the time, which is about 8 minutes a disc. Your current drive is about 15-16 minutes a disc.

Unless you burn a lot of discs or have lots of money to spend, I'd wait till the dual-layer drives come out.

Agreed.
