I'm a graduating math/econ major and will have taken a year's worth of finance classes (mathematical/theoretical) stuff..and am looking for an analyst type of job. Would an intro to accounting course help? The professor is supposed to be kind of tough for this course, and I don't want to kill myself in my last quarter..but if it could help I think it'd be worth it.

Here's what the class covers..

Introduction to financial accounting principles, including preparation and analysis of financial transactions and financial statements. Valuation and recording of asset-related transactions, including cash, receivables, marketable securities, inventories, and long-lived assets.

Practical stuff, or too elementary to matter?

Yes you should.

I was an equity analyst for 9 years and accounting is definitely something you should know if you want to get into the field.
