I am currently running Win98SE. Is Win2K more stable? Will I have problems with games (mainly Half Life). And will my Aureal sound card work with 2K? Thanks for any help.

i dunno about your sound card but half like should work fine in win2k. yes, win2k is more stable but i guess its still dependant on the user. if youre not going to do major tweaking my guess is youll be fine. how much ram do you have? you will want 256 probably.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Aureal sound card? I am gonna be upgrading to a Duron 800 soon, so will I have a problem with a SB Live card if i switch or will the aureal be ok?

No thoughts on the Aureal Card, but i've had some small problems with the SoundBlaster, but i've heard there are new drivers available that fix any problems with Win2K. You will absolutely NEED to have 256MB memory...trust me on this one, i'm running my home computer with 256 and my work computer with 320 and you CAN tell the difference. It's a little laggy with less memory. As far as game compatibility, go to NTcompatible.com to figure out whether your games will work with 2000. I have had some minor crashes in 2000 running certain games. You might even look into dual-booting with Win98 or ME. What doesn't work on one is bound to work on the other!

Dual Boot is a good suggestion. I love win2k the graphics seem more crisper.
I have had no problems playing all my games on 2K.

As far as the Aureal card... I had tons of problems with mine. The thing is that aureal went out of business before they could get a good Win2k driverset released. There have been some projects trying to get drivers working, check www.sourceforge.net. But you might want to consider saving yourself the trouble and getting a creative card, which is going to work 100%.
