my friend who lives close to me gets around 400 too, but since it has been available in our neighborhood just recently, would the speeds go down if more and more people decide to go cable?

Hm I don't think it would go down. That may have been true with early cable, but it doesn't seem to be true now.

I'm doing the opposite. Giving up cable for dsl. My cable company caps downloads at 30K, and costs 42 a month.

my cable costs freakin 60 a month, but i get "free" cable tv too, so i can't really complain. Plus i get 2-3mbit downloads. I can get SBC for 30 but slow connection + no cable tv = not worth it.

Look for specials on Comcast cable modems for NEW subscribers at your local Radio Shack and Best Buy store.

I think Best Buy had (or still has) a FREE Toshiba cable modem after rebate and first 3 months at $19.99/mo.

Also check out ComcastOffers.com

Don't get the motorola cable modem. Way too many complaints about the current one being sold at worst buy/circuit city.

exactly the same with me. iwas paying 49.99/month for earthlink DSL, and for the same price i get free cable tv (basic) and cable modem wtih 2-3 Mbps d/l speeds.

I have comcast....it costs too much ($45 a month) but the speeds are nice. My modem crashes about once a week and I have to leave it unplugged for at least a couple hours before its good for another week. They come out and replace my modem about once a year.

I have always found that Cable > DSL.

It just seems that everyone i know that has had dsl just hated the support. To me it just seems like dsl is "picky". Cable on the other hand has alwa seemed like a more stable platform

no drivers to speak of, and mine just died recently. also very odd with connecting. e.g., it doesn't. :)

I'm thinking of picking up the toshiba modem that's carried by circuit city/worst buy right now. I'll just ebay this motorola modem.
