can do for free/even make a little money.

I'd get the AT&T version.
-no Qi charging
-no google support (don't care: I feel like staying on 4.4.4 forever)
-I prefer the more angular, square nature of the Nexus 5
-no Faux123 kernels on the LG G2*

+5.2" screen (really would like)
+knock-knock / double-tap-2-wake
+much better battery
+better camera

I'm really at a loss. I think if it had the Qi charging I'd be ok jumping in.

Right now I'm afraid I won't be able to get such a solid stable phone that does everything I want excepting having a larger screen and larger battery.

*I really don't want to give up the Faux123 kernel support as he has added Kernel virtualization which negates the redundant RAM usage of every java VM or ART instance and app that uses OpenGL libraries; as well as ZRAM frontswap that buffers writes to the disk in RAM, and buffers the file table; both of which significantly improve response times in apps and multitasking, which is nice for my superior power user abilities :).

But I really want the 5.2" screen is the perfect screen size IMO.

why not get it and use it for a little bit. If you like or don't like you can sell one or the other to recoup the cost.

Since I am a battery whore who always more to me the answer would be obvious, but both are good phones and you are giving up some things for the G2 but you also gain some things.

.

If you get a case you can get one of the charging pads that connects to the usb port and hides behind the case. But fully charging it will probably take 4 hours.

The G2 has some pretty absurd battery life (borderline overkill?). Long as your gaming doesn't consist the mobile equivalent of Crysis, the phone will easily last the day and then some.

Not sure about the dev support, but from what I've heard, people are overclocking it, so I'd assume it's pretty robust.

G2 is one of the best phones I've ever used. I have no idea how the battery life runs so good, double tap to wake is the best feature,

This is about as no-brainer as it get.
Just the horrid battery life on the N5 drove me away.

I think getting the G2 is a good idea especially if you're into multimedia and photography. Also, I heard the battery of the Nexus 5 drains really bad with the lollipop update.

WOW seriously you were praising the phone for excellent battery life and then say something as mundane as double tap to wake is the best feature?

I loved my G2 before it crapped out on me. Was running fine rooted stock for about 1.5 years then just stopped working. That phone was the best I'd had, not saying much as I don't upgrade often, but the phone rocked. Wished it still ran.

Love my G2. Pretty good support on xda, great battery life, and the tap on feature is awesome.

No I've tried many different roms and kernels on phones that didn't natively support double tap to wake and the battery drain was bad, flakey to wake, lots of weird wake locks. Wanted the G3 but I think it's too big. The ROM support for the G2 is also very good.

Isn't the G2 the one with that cheap feeling slippery plastic back?

I know the Nexus 5 has sucky battery life, but I couldn't imagine trading it in for a G2. The Nexus 5 feels so freaking nice to hold, I wish more phone were designed like this. And I just love it being a Nexus phone and getting updates quick. I love Android 5.0 on this.

G2 is a great phone, big screen with small bezels, big battery, fast soc. Lollipop runs great on the D800, plenty of dev support if you're into that. I have 2, one for work and one for tinkering. Both phones were cracked screen buys on ebay, paid $110 for the first one 10 months ago and $75 for the other a few weeks ago. LCD assemblies are $40 and the phone is very easy to work on. I haven't had an urge to upgrade and don't see why I would for a while.

You'd take sucky battery life and a nice feeling back over a phone with 2+ days of battery run time?

OP if you have to have Qi look for a verizon version or the Korean f320 version with removable battery, and microSD card slot. Basically all the removable features of the g3 but not so big and better battery life.

Pretty much. The back comes off like most of the removable back phones, just no slot of a fingernail and the inside is bare instead of another layer of plastic. Battery is right on top.
