The website says that it costs 18% more to live in the Washington DC area than Dallas. But then you get housing support too. Unless you are fairly thrifty you probably will not save a lot money.

I recommend taking advantage of the opportunity from the view point of you getting to live in the east for 18 months. NYC, DC, and Boston would weekend trips for you.
