Should I share a boardband connection?

"I figured, lets get a 1.5 M/sec connection and split the monthly fee...."
After hearing some opinions on this thread I decided to post this poll.

My current idea is to join four mates to share one 1.5M/sec DSL connection.
I will buy and install the WiFi equipment, and my friend from the other end will subscribe to the service.

Your input is wellcome?

Well, I don't see any reason not to share it if you set up usage rules. It's really no different than sharing access within a home. Of course it is against terms of service to share a connection beyond one living space.

Yeah, 1.5M/sec will be more than good enough for 4 people for NORMAL usage... gaming, browsing, emails, streaming videos, online radios, etc. But if a couple of them start downloading huge movies daily, then it could be rough for the others. But typically, that kind of connection will be adequate.

It seems that you have a good grasp of what's involved. 🙂

A 1.5mbps line is more than enough for three people to share under normal circumstances. I.E. Not everyone is DLing 100MB files at the same time. 🙂

Being that you're all going to be connected to the same switch/hub (hopefully a switch) make sure you have all your security-related files up to date and enabled. I.E. File and print sharing turned off...unless you want to share drives w/each other...I wouldn't.

If you guys are planning on doing things like LAN gaming (I would!) I'd build a small dedicated server and have that as it's own node on the network...a 8-port switch isn't muich more $$$ than the standard 4-porter.
