Should I sell my modded Xbox for an Xbox 360?

After reading this article about how the Microsoft is planning on integrating the Zune, 360, and PC. I have a modded Xbox with XBMC and a 120GB HDD.

I am curious if it would be worth it to get the 360 since I am possibly looking at getting a Zune as well and I'd like to know about how the Xbox Live works since I don't currently use it on my Xbox.

I cannot keep the current Xbox and get a 360.

Please don't let your opinion of the Zune sway your opinions. My main question is is the 360 awesome enough to ditch a modded Xbox.

there are ALOT of people still in the XBOX mod scene...this means that once the Zune is out, itll only be a matter of time until somebody integrates the zune with XBMC.

It's definitely.

I swear no one can spell this word, I think I have seen only a handful times at ATOT this word being spelled correctly.

Hold off, Keep the Xbox for Streaming Divx/Net Radio, Get a 360 when you can afford it. I personally have both of them and use the Xbox more than I play games on the 360. BUT and it's a big BUT, Xbox Live is Here to stay, it is the pinnacle (IMO) of Online Gaming, nomatter what fanbois say (*cough* Sony *cough*). There is nothing more satisfying to me as a gamer than to turn the box on, be up and running with 7-15 of my friends in less than 5 mins in a game of _____ (whatever).

I don't get why people are saying a modded xbox is greater than a 360. What is so good about a modded xbox? Is it pretty much the ability to play the backed up games?

Stream movies, pics, music, from your pc to xbox. GUI is really nice on Xbox Media Center (XBMC). Internet radio, rss feeds, weather...etc. Look up XBMC for details.

Bill Gates agrees!

Yeah, but I can do most of that stuff on my 360 when I use it as an extender. Pretty much everything except rss feeds and weather....which I wouldn't use anyway.

OP, you should compare which features you're using on your xbox compared to which ones are available on a 360 and see if there is a difference. I know from a gaming standpoint alone the 360 is way better. In my opinion anyway.

Well sorta... But can you play Gears of War on the OG xbox?

I just re-read the OPs post and now I think he should definitely get a 360. The reason...Xbox Live. It adds 100% more fun to almost all games.

*EDIT
Or xvid/divx, for that matter?
Yes. And quicktime and real media too. It works surprisingly well.

Transcode 360 is a dirty hack, that is nowhere near the functionality of natively playing it.

Maybe, but it's all I know. I can pause, RW, FF, zoom. I've read that you can do subtitles, but I've never tried it. What else is there?

No. I say that because I had an XBox that a friend was going to mod for me (HDD) and I came across a good deal on a 360 premium....I sold off the XBox and mod parts and got the 360. Looking back I wished I would have went with the mod box. Best bang for the buck I guess.

1. Gaming:
Play Xbox games
Play backed up games (burned copies)
Copy Xbox games to hard drive
Load games from your computer
Play console/mame classics (MAME, NES, SNES, Sega, etc.)
Play Xbox Live
Play online for free using Xlink-Kai

2. Multimedia:
RSS feeds
Internet radio
Play any video format (TS, ISO, stuff in zip/rar files, DivX, XviD, etc.)
Copy DVDs to your Xbox
Play any non-protected audio format (MP3, AAC, etc.)
Upconvert movies to HD

And some other stuff I can't think of. Until they make XBMC for the 360, I ain't switchin' :D

I have owned alot of modded xboxs. I have modded alot of xboxs. I have sold alot of xboxs. I even gave my 5yr old a modded xbox with a 250gig h/d full of kiddie games, movies, and emulators. My personal box had a 250gig h/d filled with games. The first year, that was fun.... After a while I empty the 250 gig... sold it and replaced it with a 160 gig strickly for media. I didnt have one game or emulator on it. I finally sold off my last xbox here a few months ago. Last month, I came across a xbox 360 for $180 at a pawn shop. I jumped on it. MOdded it a few days later. Even installed MCE on my pc so I can stream DIVX movies.

Yes the divx streaming right now is quarky.

BUT... other then that and emulators.... The xbox 360 is by far the better choice. It has the ability to play backups already... does all the media functions I want. Things are only getting better.

Not even going to mention XBox LIVE!!! for $6 a month.....you can't find a better way to spend $6.

I dunno, how about not having reduced quality because of realtime transcoding, or loading down your pc while you watch something on your xbox?
