Should I return my new KDS 195TF 19" monitor?

I got a new KDS 195TF (http://www.kdsusa.com/ALL/Avitron/AV-195TF.htm) from onvia.com today to replace my Sony Trinitron 200sx 17". But I have doubts whether I should keep it.

Overall, the screen is very sharp, with bright, crisp text. The problem is the corners, which are a bit blurry and not as distinct as the middle region. In addition, the left bottom corner has a slight blue tint, while the bottom right has a slight reddish tint. This is mostly noticeable when there is a white background.

Having never owned a 19" monitor, I'm wondering if minor flaws such as this are normal or constitute grounds for returning this particular monitor and going with another, perhaps different, model. Will I get used to the flaws?

First you should try installing ney drivers! And unistalling the old ones ! Than try to look at the cord from the monitor to the Graphic card it might be loose (had a similar problem). If that doesnt help. Look at your Refrash rate dispalyed in KHZ if you have a very high one lower it. If that doesn't work than restore your monitor setting to default and if that doesn't work They send you a piece of garbage!!!!

Well the flaw of having one side of the monitor with a blue tint and the other a red tint is natural for monitors to some extent. So I wouldnt worry too much about that problem unless it is extremely noticable.

i know EXACTLY what you're talking about, i also brought a kds 195tf from onvia & the corners are more blurry they the center, like the start button, it's hard on your eyes probably because of it's blur & it's text wasn't as clear as others monitors, i replaced it with a "17 ctx & noticed a blue tint on the upper left corner & the text on the ctx was much sharper, & having tried out a "17, i decided that the screen size for a "17 wasn't that much smaller than a "19 so i decided to replace the ctx "17 because of the blue tint & got a viewsonic "17 digital/analog monitor & there is a reddish tinit on the upper left corner that isn't very noticeable at times & something the gets worst on the lower buttom while the others fade, but overall all this tints aren't noticeable & isn't here all the time & since there's no geometry problems with this viewsonic monitor & the fact a lot of people get monitors that have small minor sags in the middle of the monitor, i am not willing to trade this viewsonic for another one because the color is very bright, as when i play wwf smackdown on bleem, i notice that the color on this viewsonic are much richer then the viewsonic GS790, kds 195tf, hitachi & ctx, whilesome monitors have sharper text & others have better color, this "17 viewsonic has sharp text, & the start button is just as readable & sharp as the center & the color in games is outstanding, when you lower the brightness the black gets darker, while the white stays bright unlike other monitors where the black background can't get dark enough or if the black gets darker, so does the white which happened with the kds & ctx monitors, i would consider a viewsonic monitor because they have the most advanced onscreen controls out of all the models i have used, also onvia was so hassle free & had such great services, i decided to buy parts from them the next time i upgrade my computer.

I've had the same problems with blurred text on 2 different CTX PR960F monitors. Razor sharp in the center of the screen, blurred on the left and right sides. Convergence would simply not correct the problem. I sent both back to Onvia and I am now considering the Viewsonic PF790 or PF795.

All trinitron monitors are gonna have issues like this. Its all based on the convergence and it cant be perfect. THERE IS NO PERFECT MONITOR. The tints and reduced shapness is due to the convergence.

Thanks for your advice guys. After more fiddling, I found that the monitor produces the sharpest image at 1280x1024 @75Mhz. However, the left corners, as I mentioned, continue to be noticeably blurry. In addition, the entire left side has a blue tint. All this is particularly annoying in Outlook Express.

I've decided to return it. The only question is, should I go with the same monitor or get something different. The many favorable consumer reviews of this monitor makes me inclined to try again.

I have the same monitor and right out of the box it preformed excellently. using only the auto calibration I have graphics and text that are very pleasing.

consider if you have a power or magnetic source close to your monitor. You can sometimes get interference that will give you some of the difficulties you mentionied. But it does sound like you may have gotten a bad unit. Good luck on whichever route you take for replacing it.

Another thing that can make a good monitor go bad is rough handling. Some shippers (big brown truck) have been dumped by e-tailers for problems with monitor shipping. Buying a monitor locally is the best way to go if you can. Saves a lot of shipping costs if you have to return it plus you can open it up and try it at the store before you get it home.

Good luck.....

You can always try adjusting the landing for the corners. Worst comes to worst, call KDS and they will ship you out a brand new one via FedEx. Generally the batches that KDS pulls from are newer than the onvia.com (Ingram Micro) batches.

on large monitors, especially triniton the dot pitch in the corners is always larger than the in the center. They have smaller focus guns on big monitors for the corners to try to make it better, but its not perfect. So that could explain some of the blurryness. Also the red blue problem is due to the white temp, the blue part is too hot, the red is too cold. It could be magnetic fields in your room, you might want to try in another room
