Should i Return it. Or open it :)

Got a 6800NU for Christmas. Really happy about it but was thinking to myself would it be worth returning it and spending a extra $100 for a 6800GT?

I have a Athlon XP 2500+ at 3200+ speeds and always run a game at 1024x768 without AA or AF. But like to turn the settings to max. Is there going to be a big difference in performance for me? I know if i ran AA and/or AF there would be. But figuring since i dont....

Thanks 🙂

Wouldn't you CPU still be the bottleneck with a 6800GT?

Personally as long as it wouldn't hurt anyones feelings i'd take it back and swap up the 6800GT, it is a good bit more powerful

ya thats what i was thinking. Also at such a lower resolution by todays standards (1024x768) i figured wouldnt be a big difference. Wouldnt hurt anyones feelings. But if its really that much more powerful then i guess i probably should return it

i'm just worried you would get much of a gain due to your CPU, i guess you could go for the GT and just upgrade the CPU/mobo before too long.

ya.. and in a few of the benchmarks on this site seems the 6800 is just as good of a value as the 6800GT. im all about price/performance 🙂

Ill think about it more. Thanks 🙂

That's about right for that CPU. I was in the same situation a few months ago when I had an XP 3200. I had a Gainward 6800NU and upgraded to a PNY 6800 GT. I didn't see much of an improvement till I upgraded to A64. Now it's like night and day. If your not going to upgrade the CPU I'd stick with the 6800NU.

Probably going to wait a year to upgrade CPU and then ill probably go ALL PCI express.

I opened it and installed the 6800NU and tried to unlock the pipelines. This is what i did. opened rivatuner went to low levle system settings.. NVSTRAP driver. install it.. and then check the pipeline and vertex unit thats not checked and enable HW masked units. Restarted computer. It didnt STICK.. rivatuner still shows my processor as a 12pipeline. What am i doing wrong?

Going to have to wait til Rivatuner 15 RC3 comes out to unlock my pipelines. The new cards are slightly different than the old ones and he found a way around it and the new version will let me unlock (or try to). So i have to wait few days and see if i can unlock the pipes.
