Should I replace my Netgear MR814 (version 1) with Netgear's Super 802.11g?

I will need to buy a Netgear wirless PCI card for a desktop. I could buy this netgear pci card at Newegg for $54.99 for my MR814 router. ma311

Or I could get the Netgear Super G router here for $49.99 after rebate at newegg. wgt624 The frequency band is 2.4Ghz which is the same as my cordless phone. Would that be a problem?

The pci card for the super g router here would $39.99 at Newegg but is limited to 54Mbps not 108 like the router.

My version of the MR814 does not have the built in firewall. here

Thanks.

It's really up to your personal preference on the speed, also could depend what you plan on doing over the network and net. I personally think it'd be cool to get the super g's since the prices have dropped so much already, but yeah... Haven't really heard many problems with the same frequency band. Maybe a little static here and there, but nothing big and it shouldn't cause much trouble.

just my $0.02

Wait on Wireless-N

If you read more information on "GS" or "SG" you may find that it's not everything you're looking for

i have mr814 router, and it's good. it penetrates through concrete walls across two rooms and my signal is still 98%. it's just slow because it's b, but i'm satisfied with it.

It depends entirely on what you do over your lan.
A) Is 98% of your traffic surfing the net? Stay with the good old mr814, which is one of the better units till it quits🙂
B) Do you routinely push 20 Mb or greater files across between local computers, and are the impatient type? (I'd use a usb2.0 external drive here, but hey, that is just me😉 ) Get a "G" router and card.
