I need a little help please. My pc has been down for a good 6 months if not more. My mobo needs replaced but I'm not sure if its worth it. That's why I came to you guys. Is the board worth replacing and if so, will the system be good enough for gaming. If it is worth it, which board should I get? Any thoughts would be great!!

This is my current specs.

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UDS-B3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6GB/S USB 3.0 ATX Intel

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Video: MSI R6950-2PM2D2GD5 Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDr5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support

Your system still has some gaming left in it, but you are due for a video card update depending on what games you want to play.

As far as what board? Any one kind find, preferably with a P67 chipset. However at this in the game, you will likely only find used ones for sale (Ebay or For Sale sub-forum here). Maybe there will be more for sale now if some are finally upgrading to Ryzen or a 7700k system.

There are still quite a few members here still running similar systems, but many have upgraded their video cards.

Ok, I'll look around for a board. Will the video card work for most games if not running on High video settings? I'm giving this system to my son for the time being. He wants to save money and build a new gaming pc. But that wont be till near the end of the year. So I don't want to sink to much into this one.

The HD 6950 won't be great for newer games. But if he is ok playing games with lower settings at 1080p, it should work for him for a bit depending on the game, but at this point that video card is 6+ years old. And it will come down to what games he wants to play.

Thank You Very Much UsandThem!! I found a mobo on ebay. I going to see how the video card I have works for now. But just in case, can you suggest a video card that would work great and better then the one I have and not break the bank?

It comes down to what level of games he wants to play, but a card like the 4 GB RX 470 or RX 480 would be good choice. The 470 can be had staring in the $135 range, and 480 starting in the $165 range. The 8 GB 480 starts in the $215 range.
