Should I quit my job?

Ok, so I go to my employee evaluation today, and my boss says that I have been doing a great job, and blah blah blah. I live in BC and work at A&W. So minimum wage is going up to $8 per hour, I was making $7.75 before when minimum wage was $7.60 per hour. So at my evaluation my boss says that there are several things that have been bad or that were bad over the summer. He said that one of the managers said that I didn't have a good attitude over the summer, and some other stuff which was completely untrue. The manager who said all that sh!t doesn't like me. SO my boss said that I will only be bumped up to what minimum wage will be because of what this one manager said. I am pretty pissed off about it, but I think that now I will start doing a Sh!ttier job because I know that I am not going to get a raise because I won't be there in 6 months at the next evaluation. What do you think? should I quit?
Oh and I told my boss everything that that manager was doing wrong, and he said he would talk to her about it.

Dude, cut your losses and get out. I doubt your attitude is going to do a 180 right away. Take the criticism, work on it, and move on.

Don't start doing a bad job. That really won't get you anywhere.

I would just start looking for another job right away, but I wouldn't quit. It may take you a while to find another job because unemployment is so high right now. At least wait to see what happens when your boss talks to the manager.

Yeha I am planning on doing a minimal amount of work, and I am only working like 2 shifts a week because of college. I am just pissed that that woman would tell my boss all that stuff. Everyone else told him good things. WEll she can go to hell.

sorry for not feeling sympathetic

but life is tough and unfair...

yes, the other manager probably did say things that are untrue...but just leaving or giving bad attitude furthers the justification that you don't deserve a raise

Quitting is always the easiest answer, but not necessarily the best one

How about biting your pride and continue doing your best (not just your minimum as so many other say) and soon enough, rewards will pay off. Actually, it may be good that the next evaluation is in 6 months cuz then you more room to manuever. If it was in 2-3 months, well, the manager doesn't have a chance to see your "good" attitude.

Best of luck

edit: well you see, doing only minimim work doesn't further your cause of getting raises.

I would have been fine with it if I wasn't leaving in 6 months. I had been planning to do that for a while because I would rather get a better than minimum wage job over the summer so that I don't have to work during the school year.

Dude, it's A&W. It's not like you're going to seek a recommendation from this place later on.

Keep your grudges to yourself, don't create a scene or anything. It's not worth the stress. Do what you have to do to collect your paycheck.

My first response when reading your thread's title was NO DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB in this economy. But it seems you're in Canada not the USA, and you don't have a high paying IT computer job. So if you're unhappy, try and do a better job for a few weeks or months then give your 2 week notice in writing, leave on good terms.

YEha it is a pretty crappy place to work, I can't believe that I have put up with it for three years! I am not really sure what I will do. But there is no way that I will be working there for the comming summer.

It's all about the managers. My manager thinks I'm a waste of life. I did work on another team and they think I'm one of the best employees they've ever had and they love me.

If you can get another job easily, AND since you're making minimum anyway, might as well find a new one.

if you do quit, make sure you have a job lined up right after it, it's hard to get another job once you remember what it's like to not have one ;)

Don't work where you aren't happy unless there is no other choice.

Unless you like RootBeer that much, try retail and get a discount on clothes for school. Or Electronics store and get stuff...

<< YEah I know what you mean I won't quit until I know that I have another job lined up. >>

That is the best thing you can do. It is always easier to find a job when you have one. Then you aren't under pressure to take the first job you see because you need the money or take a job you don't know you will like because you need the dough. It also might put pressure on you to give the wrong impression at a interview because you don't currently have a job.

Just coast and do the minimum. Look for a job and when you find a better one, tell this current company to go blow.

it doesn't sound as if things are stressful there; you're just not happy with the recent review. in that case, do a good job while looking for another, and quit on good terms when you've found something new.

So which A&W in BC do you work at :D?

Atantean I would start looking for a new job. I think the job market here in BC is still pretty good but then that might just be in Vancouver.

I'm surprised that they keep you around that long. I think most fast food places work on a heavy turnover so they can pay most of the employees minimum wage.

Bad break.

If you quit, do it quietly and know that if your manager is a putz, they'll get theirs in the end. It may take a while, but these kind of people are always weeded out eventually.

<< So should I continue to do a good job so that I will have a good reference?? >>

no, you should just do a good job so when you do quit they'll miss your hard work and regret not paying you better to keep you.
