Should I pay my dentist?

I went for a visit to a dentist a while ago and all she did was take like a few X-rays and checked my teeth for less than 5 mins. The whole thing was less than 10 min. She did nothing for me and she is charging me $150. Should I actually pay it?

I have dental insurance. But for some reason that visit wasn't covered. So I've gotta pay it myself. Am I wrong to think that I'm being over charged?

a service has been performed and the service should be paid for...

you should have asked what the cost was gana be. but still a tough call

"she did nothing for me"...

When you see a doctor or dentist or even a mechanic, you pay for their time weather they find something or not. She certainly didn't do nothing for you. $150 for an exam and xrays is reasonable. In los angeles the average dentist has an overhead of more then 60% with an average of 70%. They have to charge for their time and expertise otherwise they would go out of business. Call other dental offices in your area and see how much they charge for an exam and x-rays.

You should also find out why your insurance didn't cover the visit. Maybe it was coded wrong.

Well first you should figure out why your dental coverage sucks.

Second, you would you *rather* your dentist found that you needed a root canal and pay $2000?

On the matter of her doing nothing, do you realize how much that X-Ray machine cost? Upwards of 15 grand. If it were so easy, people would not be paying $150 for such things.

You need to check your insurance plan. My fiance's plan is one "covered" visit every 6 months, if there's more than 1 visit, that 2nd one is on her dime. And it comes with an annual $50 charge, so in other words... her plan sucks.

well, I went to another dentist and he did not charge me for x-rays and just charged me for whatever was done.

fvck, I guess I'll just pay it and be done with it. I'll never go back to her again.

Yeah, that may be a good idea. $150 seems a bit high as well, though the cost of the other procedure you had may have included the X-rays.
