Should I pay for the registration on my car if i'm going to sell it soon?

My car registration needs to be paid by 12/2. I live in California so its california car registration laws.

if it's not due till 12/2, do not pay it. You are paid in full till December. You realize it is only September? If you get to the mid/end of november and you haven't sold or traded it off then buy the registration.... I wouldn't be offering up 250 bucks if you don't need to... if that's something you like to do, send me a PM and I'll give you a mailing address where you can send me some money

This seems obvious to me. I'm not sure I understand the dilemma. If there's a good chance you'll be rid of the car by then, why pay the registration? If that 12/2 date is a hard deadline (there's no grace period?) then go online a day or two prior to the deadline and pay it if you absolutely must.
