Should I overclock or not? Just bought parts for a new system, and I need advice

Well my crappy Compaq died after a couple years of service. So I decided to just purchase parts for a new system. I only had about $500 to spend, but that is good enough for me.

Anyway, I purchased the parts yesterday. Here is what I purchased:
...AMD 2500+ barton 333 (retail)
...Abit nf7 motherboard
...Buffalo (windbond chips) 2 x 256MB pc 3200 RAM (512 total) from newegg
...Antec SLK3700AMB case with 350w Antec power supply

My question is simply this: Should I overclock at all? I've read a few places that this CPU easily overclocks to 3000+ speeds. So should I overclock or run at stock speeds? How much can I overclock safely with retail cooling? Thanks.

Absolutely.

Bump your Vcore 5% ( Might be able to hit 3200+ on default )

Bump Vdimm to 2.8v

Push it, push it, PUSH it.

2500+ + nf7 + bufallo = formula for overclocking

i'd be surprised, very surprised if you didn't reach 3200+ speeds on that setup

oh, and dont skimp on good cooling, sk-7 with a panaflo for about 30 should be good

Second you over clock that chip has no warranty. I would wait a little while and see if you need to do it first. if you are happy with the results with out ocing then dont, if you think you need more speed than do. Of course its better to have the speed and not need it than need it and not have it.

I've managed 2.1GHz on both my friend's and my XP2500+ with stock cooling. Runs at about 40C idle and 50C load. I do plan to get a Silent Boost once my local store gets it in stock in a few days.

But in reality, AMD won't be able to tell whether you overclocked or not. Unless you, like Deputy Strokey, tell them that you'd like to void your warranty because you overclocked.
