Mountian mods wants $270 normally, but get this, I asked for no fans holes in front and they want $40 extra.🙁 They make them so i fiqure less holes = less complicated = less money.

What do you think? I'm going for a clean silver look.. will have all my water equip and rads on right side blowing out the back and mobo on left.

Also how thick in metal? big industrial? or thin Lian Li?
 
My, that's a humongous but handsome case -- you running a server?

Anyways, maybe it's just me, but that case looks good with all those fans.

Yea but I go for silence...having openings infront of case is a big negative since nothing can block interior sounds. Also fans in front is a big no no where you can hear some turbulence and motor noise.

No server just space to hold everything... when moving into silent water you need huge rads with lots of low RPM 120mm fans spinning about 700 rpm. Plus all the tubes, and pump. Big cases rule as far as I'm concerned.


I just wish someone had one to tell me about it.
 
You might try going to a local metal shop, a company that does custom sheet metal work. If you took the time to layout want you want, they might be able to make it a bit cheaper. I've had a fair bit of custom metal work done, most of it out of stainless steel, and by laying out each piece I saved a LOT of money.
 
I've got one of the stock basic UFO cases and love it. I don't have a lot of components in the case, but it's a water coolers dream. On the right side back there are now 2 120 fan holes setup for use of Black Ice radiators, makes for totally simple water cooling. I have a 2-302 heater core in the front left side of mine with dual Weapon fan shrouds. The drives pump and rez is on the right side. It all keeps my system plenty cool even when OCing both the vid card and CPU.

Yeah, that's true, then probably you may want the thickest gauge metal that they offer for that case.

And also, mild steel/stainless steel or heavily painted aluminum would dampen interior sounds slightly better than bare aluminum AFAIK.

I yea I'd like to design it myself, and out of Stainless Steel. I don't love aluminum because it's light, means it can't stop noise.
 
It's the thickest aluminum I've seen used on a case. Mountain Mods says it's 3.25 mm, whatever that works out to. It appears to be about twice as thick as the side pannels on my old Lian-Li PC-60 case.
 
hideous noise monster. spending that kind of money you should just get a sonata type case and a really nice water cooling system with large radiator.
 
Sonata = cheap junk like most PC cases even Lian-Li . I'm used to sun server cases. Heavy, stainless steal, you could drop off a two story building and not hurt it.


Besides I'm having most holes not cut and only in back.

gosh I hate steel cases nowadays. I still have an old full tower steel antec case, it must weigh 60lbs. I liked to think of it as the anti-upgrade case, simply cuz I never wanted to move it 😀

What I mean is that rather than walking in saying I want a stainless steel box this size with holes here and there, I made full size patterens of everything I wanted. The metal shop then cut the shapes I wanted, punched the holes, and bent the lips I needed to join it all together. I then screwed it all together and put in a few other parts.
This was actulay a stainless steel vent hood over a gas range, with some odd angles and holes for a fan and controlls. When I went in and said I need this size with theese holes in it, the price was $1100. After I did all the thinking and drawing, the price droped to $200. It took me about 3 hours to lay it out and screw the parts together, so I netted about $300 an hour for my time. It was worth doing.

You need to read about "barrier loading"... these lightwieght cases like Lian-Li suck IMO cause they are xtremly noisy with the parts inside.

You mean like print plans on a plotter? Or will regular sheets pf paper do?
 
I have my current server in an old steel IBM server case. No noise whatsoever. This thing is 2 mm thick steel, which is probably equivalent to the 3.25mm aluminum on that case.
 
All I know is that the UFO is the quietest running system I have at the house. That's even with a loud Laing D4 whiner (orignal 370 GPH) pump and 7 case fans. It beats the heck out of Cooler Master, Lian-Li and Thermaltake, alumimum or steel.
