Should I move to Orlando, Florida?

Okay, I'm sick of the Midwest (Ohio). I want to be someplace fun with sun and palm trees. Is Orlando the place for me? Anyone from Orlando care to provide apartment and job suggestions? I plan to contact Universal Studios, Disney, etc. about job openings (I'm an OSU marketing grad, but I have mgt. experience). I'll need to have a job set-up before I can move, though. Anything to get me started.

Yes. West of Orlando they have nice apartments to compensate the rise of employees for Disney,Sea-World and such. Also look into a town called Altamonte Springs. I had a third floor loft apartment with cathedral ceilings, Central air, Satellite TV and a Washer/Dryer for a whopping $529.00 a month. Be trained in a skill before you go though, if your not, you wont make much money. The cost of living is very cheap compared to living up north here, but unskilled labor floods the market there so no easy high paying jobs down there unless your skilled.

As a matter of fact, I might move back down there myself eventually.

Check out the jobs in the Orlando Sun.

The entertainment industry is very stingy when it comes to $$$

I was there one summer and it was hot as hell. If you don't like humid heat then don't go to Orlando. I don't know how the people down there live in the heat every year. I just like to have my windows open in the summer and not have to run the air 24/7.

Thanks wnied. I was looking on Apartments.com and rent.com for apts. What is the name of the complex that you lived in? I plan to travel down there within the upcoming months to set things up. I don't really have any connections, so I'm a little apprehensive about the move. I have retail experience, if it comes to that... I'd prefer something business-to-business, though (such as tech. sales, etc). Some of my friends have warehousing/logistics jobs -- I could handle that. Perhaps I could be Spider Man for Universal Studios! Yeah!

I'm from there, grew up there. I lived in Longwood mostly which is one exit north of Altamonte Springs. Orlando is a good town, plenty of golf if your into that and yes PLENTY of cheap living. It is so god damn hot there though in the summers that I just had to get out. Oh and traffic is completely wacked there due to the fact that they never caught up with the growth spurt that Disney created.

I ended up moving to the beach for a few months which was nice, a touch cooler in the summers because of the ocean breeze but no economy. I since then have moved clear over to San Diego, which I love. Expensive but worth it.

I live very close to Longwood. All the fun stuff: beaches, clubs, amusement parks, are no more than 1 hour away from my house.

I live in West Palm Beach, but I've been to Orlando a few times. Yes, it's really hot there, especially how it's not even inland. It's more of a big tourist jumble than a place to live. All these big confusing streets with too many shops etc etc.

A huge bump for San Diego though! It's not America's Finest City for no reason. The weather is really decent (never used AC or heater there), the people are nice, it's nice and sunny (unlike the *cough* "Sunshine State"), sweet beaches, and overall a really awesome place. Just make sure you can afford paying a lot for an apt in North County San Diego.

No, Ohio's okay. There's stuff to do. The weather blows (haha) however. I think I'm sensitive to the weather, which is usually overcast. I've always imagined being someplace with palm trees. I may as well move now rather than later in life. Perhaps I need someplace more tropical? Puerto Rico anyone?

I grew up there and live about 2 hrs away currently. It's OK, there are a lot of tourist attractions but culturally it's a little vapid. There are apts all over Orlando as well as surrounding areas (Altamonte Springs, Maitland, Winter Park, Lake Mary etc.). There are some apt. hunting serves available also.

The weather here is pretty bad in the summer (humidity and mosquitoes like you've never seen) so A/C is a must.

If you like to have old people around then moving there would be fine, because all the people I know that moved to FL (especially Orlando) are retired folks.
