OK, you love Boston. Why not go there for college (Boston's the pre-eminent college town anyway), then come back to Cali with the paper in hand a little more 'worldly' & wiser from your experience. With a worsening affordable housing shortage and resultant ever-skyrocketing home prices, it might be tough getting 'settled' again though in another 4-5 years.
Do you mean your family would move there, or you'd just go there for college? I'd definitely recommend against going to college 3000 miles away... but then again, anything that gets you away from the west coast can't be too bad.
I've heard you make a lot of comments about how you love Boston in previous threads, so move here for a while. If you like it here better, stay. If not, then you can always go back to Cali after college.
BTW: I live in the Boston area and go to school in the city and love it, but I'm looking to go somewhere else for college because I've been here my entire life and I need a change of scenery.
I would imagine parking in Boston would be like that since it is a highly congested city. I really do think the traffic in Boston is worse then Manhattan. The weather there is by no means comparable to California.
More like $30 in a lot, if you can find one. That's why I always take public transportation everywhere I go. The "T" here is cheap and covers the entire city and most of the metro area. The Green Line isn't great but at least it gets you there.
For school it is a great place, there is BU, BC, Harvard and many more...however if you are into IT and looking for a job I would say pass as they are few and far between, plus cost of living here is pretty awful....
Parking can be as high as $80/Day depending on where you park and what you consider a (Day) usually if I park in the city for 8 hours I am looking at $40-$50 at a nicer garage...whereas in DC it would cost about $12-13....
I like the California state motto: Snow is something you visit. We have championship ski areas a couple of hours drive from our major cities, but when you're tired of being cold and wet, you can go home, and it doesn't follow you. The words, snow and shovel are associated only by choice.
We also have a great selection of fresh produce all year around.
