hey all,, i have the chance to move to 2k.. but i really dont wanna format... so do you think it is worth the hassle to reformat.. for the x-tra performance from 2k??

dont havta, just dual boot.

reformatting is part of the job. get used to it. =)
there isnt extra performance. most games run slower. but, hey, u get stability.

you won't get any performance increase, but as far as stability you will notice a huge improvement, if your happy with what your using now and it runs stable just stick with it..

well i think i might hold off another month or so.. get my new HD.. may-b 40-60 gig.. and then just do a fresh install..

P.S> you guys really love 2k is it that good..

<< Its wonderfull, it is worth every 10 cents the cdr cost😉

EDIT: j/k it is worth the 150 it costs
>>

lmao!

What kind of stability? I havent used 2k yet cause i'm happy with 98se.

well, for one thing, end task actually works. that is, until the stupid debug window comes up. then u gotta wait.

one of my concerns was gaming.. i only have and MX.. and i like to play 1024x16 and i hear that you can take a gaming hit in 2k.. well i really dont wanna take that hit.. is this true??

you can turn that off. type "drwtsn32" into the run box, and uncheck all the boxes in the window that pops up.

Personally, I have been to Win2K and back more than once. Each time I try it cause everyone says games run just as good on Win2K but fact is they do not. Games run better in Win98, no ifs, ands, or buts.

If you turn off your system everyday, then the advantages of Win2K diminish even more.

And those that say Win2K doesn't crash are lying. I've crashed in Win2k many times and that is a big reason why I don't use it anymore, not to mention the compatibility issues w/ certain programs I have.

If my computer is going to crash running Win2k, it may as well crash under Win98 and that is why I went back to it.

You need to decided exactly what you use your computer for and if it includes any gaming, you better off in Win98 and at the very least, a dual boot system because Win2k is certainly not the answer to all problems that everyone is looking for.

For some one who thinks about moving to w2k, you should know a simple ?trick?.

You buy a Mobile Rack (like this):

https://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=205-7036

You find a deal on a Hard Drive like This:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=423658&highlight_key=y&keyword1=hd

For less the $50 you have the capacity to exchange HD, you can keep your current setting.

You have an additional HD to play till your heart contends.

In any case what the point to start learn W2k, Win XP will be out in few months.
