Couple things.

First, the PPC takes ~65 secs to boot, whereas the Intel Mini takes ~25, IIRC. That's just an example; the Intel Minis are MUCH faster than the PPC Mini overall, Google it.

Also, I saw benchmarks on the Core Duo that showed almost no difference whatsoever between 512mb and 1gb, but I'm not sure about the Core Solo. I generally run Adium, iTunes, Colloquy, Synergy, and Firefox with 8 or so tabs and it's fast enough with no issue of too little RAM.

Benchmarks aside, it's definitely worth getting 1GB RAM for the Mac mini Intel Core.

You like Firefox more than Safari?

Do it. All you have to lose is 3 months of computer games, and you stand to gain a LOT more.
