Should I leave negative feedback?

Some guy on Ebay won my auction and now he hasn't paid me. He messaged me a day or so after the auction ended (auction ended Sunday night) and said he was having car problems. The money would get to me "no later than noon Friday" is what he said, but noon Friday came around and I didn't get anything. Late Friday or Saturday he emailed me and said that everything "has gone to hell" and he won't be able to pay for the auction (A whole $31 total) but he would give me money to re-list the auction.

I told him I was going to leave him negative feedback if he didn't pay me by 1pm today (sunday) and he hasn't sent me anything yet, as of 11:18PM sunday night. It's be exactly one week since the auction has ended.

Should I leave him negative feedback with the fear of him retaliating or should I just forget about it and re-list the auction. The guy has 56 or so positive feedbacks, with only a handful of negative (2 or 3). Most of the negatives are from (suprise!) him not paying for the auctions he's won

I only have 10 positive feedbacks, with no negatives. If I got a negative it would really hurt me a lot more than it would hurt him.

So what should I do?

IF the guy doesn't have $31 to pay an auction, what makes you think he'll pay the 15% to repay your auction fees? Give him negative feedback and tell the guy he got what he deserved. If he gives you negative feedback back you can email eBay which should remove them for you

True...but it bothers me that he's done this. There's no telling how many other times he's done this if he just paid off the seller.

Besides, paying for relisting fees doesn't pay for the time I've wasted on this deadbeat.

as they say, time is money.

Give the bastard negative feedback, if he gives you negative feedback then e-mail ebay like the othe rperson said. They will investigate into it.

I thought once feedback was left it's written in stone and can't be removed....no matter what...?

I agree. At least he is offering to pay your fees. Leave negitive feedback you get nothing.

eBay can't remove feedback. You however can reply to it and say "Seller refused to pay for item" - that always gives them a good light.

Best way to handle things is to menace him. Often the threat of a neg is enough to get people in gear.

Generally, I would accept the compensation for relisting and leave no feedback.

I am cautious about leaving negative feedback for fear of receiving retaliatory negative feedback...I have a flawless eBay history. But if someone screws up big time, I'm not shy about poor feedback. This guy's actions doesn't qualify as a major screw-up.

maybe not a major screw-up but a major annoyance.

He could have canceled his bid or not even bid at all. It's not like he bid on the item a week before the auction ended, he bid the day the auction ended.

sh!t happens, let him pay you the relisting fee and relist it, don't leave him any feedback, besides, you don't know what happened to him, he could have gotten in a car accident or something, just assume you were in his position..

Just send a one-liner email stating the fee is due in 3 days or something. But don't expect it to be paid. As an ebay seller with thousands of transactions under my belt, I've heard the "I will pay your fees" line once too many times and 99% of them is never paid. I can only give my analysis that these people seem to live off the thrill of pissing others off, lying, then lying over and over again.

I would let him go on this, he said he'll pay you for relisting your auction I don't really see any harm done besides a little of your time. He didn't expect to be in a problem but he was, things happen. He's having financial difficulties, I would let him go. I think you shouldn't leave him any feedback or even maybe you can gain a positive, both of you leave one. If he doesn't pay and you leave him a negative where does that get you? You have no money to relist and it's gonna come out of your pocket you honestly think he'll pay you once you leave him a negative or even give you the money to relist? Unless ebay does it for free.

Well you asked for my opinion and there it is.

That is true. My anger is telling me to leave a negative feedback, but I really do feel sorry for him if he is having financial troubles. I'll email him saying that if he pays me the relisting fees then we'll call it even and we can both move on.

I'm all for the offer he had given you. Let him pay for you relisting fee and the certain % that eBay takes for a successful auction. Negative feedback will get you nowhere when you have only 10 inputs.
