I normally take 2 scoops of whey protein/day. One with oatmeal in the morning, and one after my Insanity workout. I do Insanity 6 days/week and weight lifting 3 days/week. (weight lifting during lunch break, Insanity in the evening)

Last week I had a severe eye infection due to improper lens usage (neglected to wash my hands before replacing lenses lately). I couldn't leave my house for several days, and I had to stop my workout for a week.

During that period, I stopped taking whey protein, because I thought my body didn't need it, and I heard that excess protein without activity can turn into fat.

I guess I should have asked this earlier as it's too late and I'm back to working out, but I wanna know this for the future (vacations, etc...)

Did I do the right thing? Or should I have continued taking whey protein as normal?

Whey protein is basically food. The bioavailability of it is higher than most foods with protein. If your diet is good and you are getting plenty of protein from other sources you will be fine.

Personally I drink 2 to 4 shakes per day even on my days off from working out to get my protein I need. The way I look at it is it is food and cheaper than chicken, fish, etc..

ok you have been given some pretty bad information. Hopefully I can clear this up for you.
1) protein out of all macros is the most difficult for the body to turn to fat and takes a good amount of calories to even break it down.

2) while you take time off, is when your muscle grow and repair, this is probably the MOST importatnt time from protein. 2 scoops of protein only equats to roughly 50grams a day...so keep taking it.

Personally for me, if I am injured or sick..I will cut my protein down to 75% of my bodyweight gram/LB... but other then that I consume about 100-125% protein gram/LB... i.e. i am 256lbs...so I consume 256 grams.

Yeah I realize that it's considered food and how much you take depends on your diet. Thing is, I wanted to know whether my body needs less protein if I stop working out due to injury/vacation/w.e

That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you
