I've got a XP2000+ Palomino with AGOIA stepping. It is retail package, so it came with the AMD HS/Fan. Should I try to switch it for a T-Bred or keep it.

I will probably not look to do any serious overclocking, but would like to try running at 166 FSB. Is this processor likely to get that high. Also, is the retail HS/Fan any good and what are the best alternatives for ~ $25.

Processor will be installed in a nForce2 MB (not yet decided which one).

TIA

keep what you got, and the retail H/F is just fine, it won't do 166, but then again there's nothing out there that's much faster than a 2000xp @133. spend your money else where (optical mouse, LCD, better video card, etc, etc, etc)

Get the XP you have unlocked then max it out, the T-Bred wont be much faster unless you pay for a 2400+ or up which I think is just a waste of cash unless you think you'll want the extra bit of power and overclocking head room. Just in case, the best heat sink you can get cheap is the Thermalright AX-7, if your overclocking I'd get something better than the retail fan for sure.

If you cant unlock your chip, these guy's will do it for you:

Keep it. XP 2000+ is already ass-kickin ! The increase in 33FSB do speed up things a little...but it still not justified the money tht u gonna spend.

2000+ is already great.
