Should I join this National Honors Society?

So, I receive this letter from my school a couple of days ago regarding the Delta Mu Delta honors society for business administration students. You have to get like a GPA above 3.? and be in the top 20%. I'm surprised that Im up there.

Anyways, there's a $50 lifetime membership fee. But, I remember in HS when "Who's Who..." sent me a letter saying I was inducted into that thing. I was so excited I bought the book and everything. Next day at school, I found out almost everyone received the same letter. Stupid scam! I felt so special until then.

Anyways, anyone has any advice? Has anyone joined such a thing with someone else?

can't say i've ever heard of that society, and to be honest, it looks kind of iffy, especially with the amateurish look of the website.

The NHS at my school doesn't cost anything to join, but membership is selective. Requirements here are a 3.75 GPA and 5+ hours of community service. I really wish that the NHS was harder to get into, such as a 3.9 GPA or something along those lines. I have a 3.96 GPA and 11hrs of documented community service.

you mean it's good for my resume. i'm already in college.
well, it's being endorsed by the school. there's a big ceremony and stuff
next month with officials being selected. the sponsor at my school is
a faculty member who sent out the letter.

i questioned the website also, but then again there are plenty of
ugly, yet legitimate websites

i thought about that! whats the point of joining one anyways? i figure for $50 i could put this baby on my resume!

I was inducted into NHS this year (my senior year) I was supposed to be inducted last year, but I didnt care enough to join. I was forced into joining this year. Sure, it'll look good, but the whole thing had religious overtones, IMO, and the whole community service thing is annoying. I have to tutor 8th graders who think they're pimps and hos and cant even read on a 5th grade level as a community service project. Ugh.
