This.

Contact lens solution, soap, dishwasher liquid, electronics, etc. There are hundreds of non perisshable household items that you can buy in bulk to save money. You will more than likely pay off your $50 fee with the savings of a few trips.

Also, the one on Rt 27 in Edison sells alchohol, beer, wine at better prices than your local store. And costco is the biggest seller of wine in the country.

Just for yourself? No. We do it because of the cheaper diapers, but I find myself spending $10 here and $10 there on frozen foods, breakfast muffins, etc. 2 trips in a month cost me $300+. We never used to spend that much a month on food. When it's there, you buy more, when it's there in your house, you eat more often. Save yourselves!

You don't need a costco membership. You need a friend with a costco membership.

yeap.

We get all this from sams adn it saves us a bunch. Also the Sams club we go sells alchohol. Every now and then they have damn good deals on beer its great. but the everyday price of hard liquar and wine is better then the local places.

Not to mention the office supply's we get for the house, etc.

Ijust wish we had a Costco in rockford heh

they don't check photo id or anything? my sister and her husband have one, but they live like an hour+ away so it's not exactly practical to tag along when they go grocery shopping.

They can add you to the membership and get you a card. I've done that with my parents.

The only negative is that Costco assumes you live in the same household, so you won't get any coupon books mailed to you. But folks at FatWallet scan it and post it there.

Last time I had a membership they scan your membership card + AMEX when you check out. They don't do that at the food court though.

Go in with a friend and give them the money to pay for your stuff before you hit the checkout.

That's what I meant. I never had a problem asking them to split the bill and I pay for my stuff and my costco friend pays for her stuff.

You can split it with a friend. I do this and my friend and I each have our own ID with our names. Comes out to 25 a piece.

It does come in handy for me because I buy a lot of chicken patties for quick sandwiches and I buy the frozen chicken breasts/thighs, and tilapia.

Im interested, how much are the chicken breasts and how much do you get? I usually buy frozen veggies, oatmeal, chicken breasts, beef, cabbage, tuna, peanut butter, and fruit for my diet. Would this type of store be worth it to me?

- produce: generally the produce at Cotco is subpar, and it's priced not very attractively either - you will get a much better deal at a local small indie produce store that sells locally grown produce.

- meat: the meat is of top notch quality though, you will be hard pressed to find better cuts without finding a butcher store which are far and few in between here.

- snacks: great selection and rock-bottom prices if junk snacks in bulk are up your valley. Healthy stuff is also available.

- household items: great deals if you need everything in bulk

- wine: great selections at very attractive prices all year round. We have direct shipments from Napa Valley vineyards. Have not seen prices this low anywhere, unless you snatch deals at BevMo 5c sale

- seasonal: can't beat prices on flowers for all the women's days, and bouquets are pretty good looking. Also seasonal sports equipment, but nothing spectacular neither in price, nor in quality.

- electronics: have to look for deals, mostly it's on TVs and cameras, and the extended warranty if buying with Amex helps.

there are two of us and we shop Sam's (just for contacts usually), BJ's and Costco. While bulk it's hardly excessive for two people. Costco's prepared meals are very good for the money as well.

Costco's dry cat food (Kirkland) is a top notch food as well, we feed the feral cats it. I picked up my Little Giant 17' Megalight ladder from them as well.

When it's just my wife & I, we still find great value in shopping at Costco. When we have the additional 4 mouths to feed (my daughter and 3 grandkids) we REALLY get our money's worth at Costco. Their meat is some of the best around. The hamburger is always far better than any place locally, and it comes in bulk...:p

I agree about buying stuff you didn't go in for...it's been my experience that if you get to the door and your receipt is less than $200, they turn you around and send you back to spend more...:p

I have found that you can usually beat the price on the TV's they sell there, PLUS, they're usually "warehouse/club store models" with fewer features than the ones you get at BB or Sears. We also found that the Whirlpool washers and dryers they sell have far fewer features than similar models sold elsewhere...but the price is good IF you don't need/want the extra features.

My only suggestion if you do decide to join is to get a chest freezer.
Buying stuff in bulk and then freezing it for future use is a great way to save money, otherwise you will be left going; "Ok, I just bought 15 lbs of beef and chicken, WTF do I do with it now?"

It depends on what you buy. Their milk is a GREAT deal (you buy two gallons, but pay ~60% what you would at a grocery store for two). I tend to make a lot of crock-pot and oven meals and get things like hamburger and stew meat which I then freeze (you can fit a lot on a normal freezer). I buy TP and paper towels there as well. It may take me six months to go through them but I have the space and it saves money. As long as you plan things it is worth it.

I don't think so. Costco is really useful if you have a large family because you can get 2x size stuff for only a little bit more than what you'd get it for at the grocery store.

I had a Costco membership a couple of years ago for myself and roommate. I figured out we were only buying alcohol and toilet paper there so I canceled my membership.

LOL....I will refund it the day before it expires ;) But by then, they would have already made enough money off of me to cover the cost :(

Costco rocks. My wife and her mother go all the time and split items. They sell some of the best stuff.

QFT...I have a friend who goes at least every other week to shop for snacks for his convenience store. I don't go enough to purchase my own membership, so if I ever have a craving for anything or need to purchase something like a TV or something, I make a trip with him.
