No games support DX9. For what it's worth, I got a few hundred increase in 3DMark2001SE when I upgraded. I don't know about real games though, so take that with a grain of salt. Also, it did correct my problem with hardware mouse acceleration in Neverwinter Nights. Not that I really care, the software mouse did just fine.

I installed DX9 a while ago, it messed my system.
I had to roll back System Restore to fix it.

Just today, installed DX9 again. This time works like a charm.

I have Geforce4 TI4200, and yes it's not DX9 optimized.

But DX9 makes me able to run 3DMark2003.

Don't see any improvement/problem running other games or even 3DMark2001 with DX9.

Some games don't recognize directx 9. For example, if you install DX9 and then try to run starfleet command 3, it will tell you that you need to have DX8.1 installed to run the game. You have to install a patch to get it to recognize DX9 properly. I believe that there are other games like this too. Also, I can't get 3Dmark2001 to run under DX9 anymore. It tells me that I have to have DX8 installed. There may be a more up to date version (I've heard of a build 330 to try) but their site is swamped.

In short, unless you have a game that requires directx 9 or a geforce fx/radeon 9500/9700. Don't bother. You're just asking for small hassles.

I stuck it on ('cause it was there..

)

I had to uninstall my 3DMark2001se and D/L the latest (build 330) then it worked fine
as has everything else.

(I chose to do it because I would rather do it now when it is convenient, than later when forced...
I just didn't see any point in resisting a change that I knew would be necessary sooner or later)

A game I play requires DX9 so I was forced to install it. No problems or slowdowns that i've seen though. So far, so good. Running a Geforce3 with 40.xx drivers.

Well its best to to make sure it does not cause any problems. Like stuff left in the registry, etc. Neither Nvidia's or ATI's uninstall for their drivers is perfect thats for sure. Both leave some stuff behind. Someone here posted i believe a really good uninstall method on nvidia and ati drivers. If you want the url i will get it for you.

imtim,

I would be curious to see the link you mentioned regarding driver uninstalls, if you'd be so kind.

Thanks!

Yeah I've got 9500 w/ 3.1 cats and DX9 without any problems.

In fact I'm loving the 3.1 cats because my TV-out is finally working the way I want it to with the overlay.

Installed DX9 with the 2.5 Cats snd I noticed a slight D3D improvement on a Radeon DDR, updated to 3.1 and although I had some SmartGART problems at first, it slightly improved D3D performance and I saw a big improvement in OpenGL.
