Should I install Batman Arkham City yet?

So I just got my new PC up and running and have a free copy of the new Batman game from my Samsung 830 purchase. Looks like the reviews say it has lots of glitches and wasn't ready for release. Do the current patches make it game playable. I'd hate my first gaming experience with my new PC to be a buggy POS.

The game was playable from day 1. The problem was the DX11 additions which made the game stutter.

Of course there always the 'other' problems you see with any game, like ATI users having graphical issues (swear I see this for every game), disappearing saves (on the Steam cloud, not local), and so on. Personally I had zero issues after turning the DX11 effects off, and the game is fantastic.

Only issue with launch was DX11, which is fixed with 64-bit OS's.

If you have 32-bit and want to play DX11, you're SOL (but DX11 and 32-bit Windows....ew).

EDIT to answer question: Yes.

No one has yet to mention the save game issue. While it was initially suspected it was limited to Xbox, PC / Steam owners have been hit with the issue as well.

Until they get that fixed, I'm not playing it. I loved the first one, I don't want the second ruined by that. Luckily I have other games to play in the meantime.

So I've got a i5 2500k PC running Windows 7 64bit. I have a 6870 which isn't really "high end" but should be a capable card. With my specs would you guys even recommend I screw with the DX11 features? I'm DL'ing the game now with my free code so will probably try to fire it up tomorrow after work.

That's a fairly decent card, you can handle it at 1920x1080 likely.

I'll try DX11 and if it doesn't work I'll scale back to lower settings. Until I buy a new monitor I am using a 19" which is 1280 x 1024 I think so it should be easy for the card.

Feel free to bash away at me if I am wrong, but I like this site and forums, and 'same old shit' here as everywhere.

Again, the save issue has nothing to do with local saves... it is the Steam cloud saves; those saves you make online that you can access anywhere that were borked. Not, I repeat NOT local saves. Fix - save locally... don't have 64K of space?

Second, don't scale anything back. Just turn off the DX11 effects. If the game stutters, just turn off the DX11 effects and get buttery smooth gameplay. You'll miss out on greater particle (?) effects; for example, the Catwoman fight in the bank - without DX11 there is a bit of cash blowing around, with DX11 there is alot of cash blowing around. Did not having more cash blowing around make the game worse - hell no.

Again, sorry. Feel free to bash, but I'm sick of seeing people act like the game is fucked up because of minor issues that affect a tiny minority, and everyone latching onto those gripes without realizing why they gripe (it's not the game, simply easily avoidable problems which don't really affect gameplay if you are not technical illiterate (or a technical elitist)).

PC gamers don't like being BS-ed about PC centric features, only to have them botched on launch and maybe of dubious value altogether.
Another thing, how demanding is this game, for example my lowly 4850 kicked ass with AA, but is AC more demanding?

Not impressed so far. Downloaded the 20gb of files and finally installed tonight. Install went ok but didn't work right when first opening. The "click to start' button (the only button on the screen) didn't work. I had to ctrl/alt/del to minimize the game then once maximizing again would let me hit the button. Then it wanted me to set up a LIVE account. I already have a hotmail account so it seemed to take that but then it wanted to download an update. It said I should exit the game to finish the update but there was not option to exit, again I had to rely on ctrl/alt/del. I had to do this twice so far till the update would even register.

Another thing I'm confused about is that in control panel it says 32bit DX11 version. Shouldn't it be 64 bit if I'm running Windows 7 64bit?? Is the version included in the Samsung 830 purchase a 32 bit version? Sounds like 32 bit + DX11 is setting myself up for BS.

So far its buggy and I haven't even seen the actual game lol. Hope it gets better.

Got the game working after an update but the menus act weird here an there. And what the hells up with the controls menu, I'm LH so use the keyboard with my right hand and usually have to reprogram the majority of the keys. It gave some kind of vague description of how to change the keys which it doesn't appear you can do while actually in the controls screen.

Went through the beginning cinematic scenes and the initial Catwoman fight, combat was lame. Then saw the Bruce Wayne clips and went to AC and saw Penguin, the ensuing combat was lame with me beating the hell out of the thugs and they just kept coming, I eventually died. I'm done for tonight. Graphics are pretty good so far but everything else is pretty craptastic so far.
