So I have read a lot about how it's good to slipstream SP2 and then install clean off from that. Well, problem is that it seems that you need to be running XP in order to do this (according to nLite documentation and other things I've read). But my old machine (which I'm typing on now) is only Win98, and wouldn't even support XP.
So I built a new system (AMD 3200+, Asus A8N-SLI, etc.) and installed XP w/SP1a last night. Then I downloaded SP2 on my old computer. I can burn it on a CD and then copy it to my new computer's HDD. From there (running XP w/SP1a) I could go through the process of slipstreaming. Then I could (I think??) format the hard drive and install fresh from the slipsteamed disc. There is no data to worry about losing; like I said I just installed the OS last night, there's nothing on there besides that.
Should I do this? I could, I suppose, just take my CD burned w/SP2 on it and then install that on top of XP-SP1a, but I've read a lot of posts that say it is the smoothest by just slipstreaming.
Also, before installing XP-SP1a, I used the CD that came with my motherboard and created an Nvidia RAID drivers floppy and then installed those drivers after pressing F6 during installation. I have 1 Seagate 160GB SATA HDD, and no IDE HDD. It was not clear to me whether I needed to do this or not, but since I read so many threads about it, I figured it wouldn't hurt.
Thanks for input!
P.S. Sorry for another question but... if I at some point in the near future want to also put Linux on my new computer, would this affect how I should install XP right now? The only option that I was given last night was to format the HDD using NTFS (I was expecting to be able to pick FAT32, but that did not show up). BTW I have not read extensively about dual-booting and such, but I plan to soon, so if this is commonly covered in the FAQs/guides out there, please ignore (but answer above question please!)
