Should I hold off on video cards?

I have to have a computer before jan 4, and I was going to go SLI with two 6800 GT's. But with the usual loops the newer video cards should be out in just a few months.

So should I go ahead and get a SLI motherboard now, and just some $100 pciexpress video card and wait for nvidia to come out with their next lineup, or just go ahead and sink the money into two 6800GT's right now.

This computer has to last me until the end of college, namely 2009.

Not meaning to poop on you plan or anything...but you'd be a lot better off just buying a slightly less fast, signifigantly less expensive PC right now and then upgrading it two years from now. I'd imagine it would cost less in the long run.

The last year in particular of a four year life cycle even on a top of the line rig will probably be less than optimal.

I would advise waiting just a bit however. A lot of cards seem a bit overpriced right now, due to low supply. I think you'll see better deals a bit later. Although, I'm not sure if you will by January 4th.

I'd love to upgrade two years from now... but my uncle is paying for it now. So i have $2500 which basically has to be spent...

I dont see any point of doing SLI right now, one should be more than enough. What do you really plan on doing with SLI 6800's right now? If you have the money get one right now, and if you need to SLI, you can do it in the future by getting the card at a much cheaper price.

Or just wait until it comes out. Just remember to get a nice good quality 550watt PSU with it.

OR you get a SLI motherboard with just one 6800 Ultra, and wait (a year or so) and buy another one for the price a GT costs now (or even lower!)
But ofcourse going with one GT right now let's you play all games at almost any resolution just fine!
